If you only play one, play the best: Duke Nukem 3D (Atomic version, preferably) for DOS. You can get it running on modern hardware using something called EDUKE32. It works like GZDOOM works for DOOM. It lets you load up the original game files, plus any fan made levels you might wanna check out.
Just Google it and you'll be fine.

Also, although some people nay-say it, the Gearbox re-release of DUKE3D called Duke Nukem 3D: World Tour is also a really convenient way to play. It's mostly faithful to the original (some changes were made, like calling the "steroids" item something more vague), but it also includes some awesome new additions, like dev team commentary and a whole new episode, 5+ new maps based on real world landmarks. They all rule.

Yeah Forever was re-made like a billion times and was in development hell for the best part of two or three decades and the final result....was mediocre (and at points unbearably cringe-worthy)

My first Duke Nukem game was the Forever and I liked the game. It's a proper FPS that has fun "new stuff" for its time and its shotgun gameplay was fun. Only new generation kids and old generation who waited too much for Duke Nuken dislikes it because they wanted an impossible game I guess, and then the hate for the game became a popular chant people echoed just because it's popular by sheeps. For me the game is still "wow" so just try and see. I read lots of BS bad comments about the game like their brain melting down, just to hate the damn game. I don't even care about the game nor I defend it but it's really "try and see" game for yourself. It's 7/10 at most and IMO way better than any DOOM game in existence. Oh there is another reason for why the game is "hated", it's just because feminists railed for camping to hate the game because it diminish value of womenhood and some excuses, and they taught their kid that they should hate games like this and give proper respect to women!!! lol

And the last Duke Nukem game I played was this so if only one Duke Nukem game had to be hated it would be this one according to the BS direction it was heading so good thing it was cancelled lolol:

Earlier DOOM games are just "shoot to shoot" games, DOOM 3 game is "looking good but plays bad horror game", new reboot one is "fun" yet still empty. Later game is Super Mario Doom due to too much platforming and "I have no ammo to actually play this game" game lol, the newest one didn't add anything to the series whatsoever.

How Duke Nukem Forever is? The game is like testosterone over 9000 in funny meme way lol. It's fun to kill unlike any Doom game IMO, especially I like shotgun gameplay which this game is really a rare one that is actually fun, and there are fun rc car levels... In short be me and play games since arcade days and Atari 2600 era Duke Nukem Forever is a fun action game that offered good stuff.

Now people may get used to a new Call of Duty game and they may dislike it, or they may get used to playing a GTA and Half Life games that you carry whole arsenal of tons of guns on you but you make dislike you can carry like 2 guns simultaneously, you may suck as racing games so you may dislike rc car driving levels. Yet I do think this game unfairly hated, especially when fake distortions to hate this game by feminist organisations and their brainwashes just to hate Duke Nukem to hate it. I do dislike the character, yet this character doesn't exist IRL, what I care about in an action game is naturally it's gameplay so it's fun IMO.

The original DOOM's are not solely focused on the shooting. Exploration, collecting items and puzzle solving are all in there too. The original DOOM trilogy are pretty universally beloved as some of the best games ever made.

Duke Nukem Forever is incohesive. It was "ok" at best. The RC segment happens once or twice in the whole game for about 5 mins and then is never utilised again. It also just writes Duke like an asshole. In DUKE3D he's all about the ultra-macho "saving the chicks" thing, which is funny, but in Forever he's just kinda callous about their suffering. It's weirdly out of character, and not in a good way.

I don't hate Duke Nukem Forever, and if you love it, great. But to say it is better than every single DOOM game and that no DOOM game is better than a 7/10 is just unreal xD But yeah, agree to disagree.

Well I'm no universal and if my first FPS ever wasn't Zero Telorance I would like these early DOOM games. Yet it doesn't mean I don't see their value in video game industry.

It was ok but could be more ok if you could simultaneously use flashlight and shoot I guess. They just picked wrong name and wrong "sense of horror" which didn't suit for a DOOM game. It was developed by ancient game developer idea who wanna try something new, and they were lacking vision enough to use the name of a popular series instead of going with new name. Naturally it wasn't a DOOM people would expect as nor DOOM Eternal is what people did want too. Especially because of nonsense platforming levels I do not think it goes well with the concept of DOOM at all and it does bother me way more than DOOM 3 for I hate platforming games and DOOM Eternal may not be a "platforming" game but it's the worst game that has platforming levels for me.

The game is awful too much platforming shit and its "I always run out of ammo and have to do boring shit to get ammo" BS is nonsense. The game is pretty much a boring as hell game. To think so you don't need Youtube. If I was a sheep who couldn't have my opinion and would only base my opinion on Youtube I would write a hate message on Duke Nukem Forever instead as hate on the game is what I would call Youtube critic take lol. Forget about concept of "takes", people can have their own opinion because of what they think without caring about what others think, you know.

Well I heard Duke Nukem Forever's writers were women or something like that. IDK if it was women version of a Duke Nukem this is how they would imagine how men are lol.

Yet I never cared about his personality, either way macho or brain dead tough guy he is annoying to me. All that matters is action for me when I play an action game.

I don't hate Duke Nukem Forever, and if you love it, great. But to say it is better than every single DOOM game and that no DOOM game is better than a 7/10 is just unreal xD But yeah, agree to disagree.

It's just I played and liked better FPS games, in that context Duke Nukem Forever is "good shotgun game" for me lol. Not many games nail with decent shotgun fun!!!
