What Linux distro are you using and what kernel? also, does it work in other emulators?

Ubuntu 26.04. and l haven't tried any others emulators yet. l only right now want to play some PS1 games.

This is excellent article, it is distro agnostic actually. You can troubleshoot your controller at least to understand it works in general.

There should be no issues with Sony gamepads, they usually work out of the box.
Do you see your device in emulator options as SDL or evdev input source?
Try to reset settings and do automatic button mappings from scratch or manually. Make sure you’re able to select right input device.

The last point, it might sound obvious, but close the emulator, disconnect the controller ( switch off bluetooth completely), enable BT back, connect it again, wait 10 seconds and only then start the emulator. Sometimes applications only recognise controller if it was plugged in before they started.

I've never used a ps4 controller with duckstation but I used to use one on my Linux laptop fairly regularly. It always just worked. Did you configure the controls in Duckstation? I use duckstation on my phone and I have to reconfigure the controls every time I connect a different controller.

Why are you using a distro that is in beta stage? in order to determine what could be causing that issue you should test if the issue is only with the specific emulator or is a broader issue, for instance udev permissions.

If you don't know how to troubleshoot issues with Linux it is not advisable to use a beta version.

Are you using the appimage? Does duckstation respond to your keyboard? If so, you can try going into the settings->controller and select each button and press the corresponding keys on the dual shock.
I usually use a ps3 controller and emulators usually recognize it. Have you tried using the controller while plugged into your machine via micro usb cable?
If none of this works for you, just try retroarch. Its beetle core for the ps1 is very accurate, although I also appreciate the simplicity of duckstation.

Go into the Bluetooth Settings and click "forget device" or whatever so the controller is no longer showing, then click find device and pair it again.

Sounds crazy to do that, but it works for me whenever it happens.

There was a time when I really liked DuckStation but somehow the emulator has become increasingly prone to errors. And I've also noticed that it no longer works properly on certain devices running Android 16.

Great news everyone. I finally fixed the problem. and now ps4 controllers now works very well.
