I have a Dreamcast thats a VA2 / model 2 that was released in November 2000. Are there any Dreamcast games that wont boot off a burned disc
EX: Crazy taxi 2 & Sword of the Berserk
This is driving me crazy cuz I've cleaned and align the laser screw and those games with either load the mp3 player or go back to the OS

i've just done some playing around with a dreamcast myself. isn't it true that the va2 models have stronger drm and can't boot burned discs?
this reddit thread mentions that the va2 "can't play backups because it doesn't support the MIL-CD format", according to user "Mechagouki1971". it's a pretty old thread though so idk if anyone knows better.
Some do and don't it's random but for the most part MY Dreamcast is able to play burned discs its just those 2 games so far. Either way thanks for the help feel free to come back if you find something new I'd really appreciate it

I'm not very knowledgeable about the Dreamcast specifically but I did my fair share of disc burning in other systems. Assuming the laser assembly is in working order (it seems to be), the next order of business would be trying a different media (disc) or maybe a different disc image to target the disc with altogether.

I've had coasters in the past due to specific disc brands or even batches within said brands, at times.

0 and 1 are the ones for using burned discs, 2 is indeed the strictest. As far as I know there's no way around the games it won't play, but would be interesting to find out if someone found a workaround.

If worst comes to happen and V2 might not be truly be able to run burned discs you can try a GDEmu, will run you back a few bucks but its a very easy MOD and you wont have to worry about your lenses on the reader dying

I Have a Orig 9/9/99 DC myself, NTSC-U 1, i have never met a Disc <albeit as stated, a Coaster burn> it wouldn't play. yeah the Rev 2, the one you have @Mondongoj3 is fairly Picky about burned stuff apparently.

Never had another DC, so i can't vouch for that.

This might help you, no idea if it will but worth a once-over

Thanks for the help however i already look at that site last night when i was having my problem, Like you said its just picky nothing i can really do about it unless i mod my DC you guys are awesome tho so thank all of you also the pervious owner om my DC was a complete idiot :?:mad

Update: Apparently it was the disc's themselves
I bought Maxell CD-R's off amazon thinking nothing would go wrong then all of that happened so a few days go by I try the CD-R I usually buy (Verbatim) with crazy taxi 2 and it worked.
idk the logic behind that but if you have a Dreamcast and your backup disc wont work try using a Verbatim CD-R

This is what I've come to learn as well, though didn't know the quality would actually impact the readability to such a degree that it would make a difference even on a 2.

But yes, Taiyo Yuden makes (made) the highest quality discs anywhere, and Verbatim is generally considered the 2nd best quality, with Memorex in 3rd I would say. So it's interesting to learn the quality can have an impact even beyond what I expected, good find and update.

No problem its silly that different brands of CD-R can make that much of a difference. to quote Savola
