Finally after two decades of wanting to play Dragon Force I finally have. Though to my surprise when I was playing it I kept thinking, I want to play Generation of Chaos instead of this. I should play that instead. They're both pretty similar games but I feel like GoC has more depth to it then DF. But not to discredit DF but I only played it for about a hour before I switched back to GoC so there might be more depth to it then I know. There are 2 main things that have me liking GoC more than DF; Units can have 2 different types of troops and Commanders can charge the enemy lines. I was getting slightly confused/frustrated just watching my commander stand there in battle and sometimes throwing a spell at the enemy. But there may be some things I don't know about in DF. So which game do you prefer and why? Also was I too quick to judge DF?

There's also DF2. Play that one instead, and if you're feeling the same way, perhaps the series is not modern enough for you which is fair, since we all have that problem with certain games.

How would you say Dragon Force 2 differ from the first?

Dragon Force = soul~
Generations of Chaos = carried by Chaos Wars

For starters, you can mix two troop types with one commander, the stories far darker in tone, they world is greyer, both in colors and tone, etc.

It's interesting because Dragon Force was being made by a company named J-Force that went bankrupt so Sega had to finish the game. J-Force's other games aren't super good. Then with DF2 they brought in new developers, so it's a completely different team. Maybe I should just go straight to Dragon Force 2 when I finally get around to trying those.

I've never played Generation of Chaos so I can't compare. Dragon Force is pretty cool but the strategy is so basic, it kind of gets tedious after a while.

Edit: Generation Chaos is an NIS game, and I'm not a huge fan of those. The art style, UI and general look of those games just screams budget. Dragon Force's visuals are a lot more attractive to me. And the story and characters are well designed and compelling.

It is an Idea Factory game published by NIS America. Though it has a different issue since it's part of their Neverland series so characters get reused often which does prevent me from playing other games in that universe like Spectral Souls.

Dragon Force 2 already sounds alot better. Might give that a try this weekend. Ended up ordering a Saturn usb controller to use as well since it was a bit odd hitting R1 to confirm things in Saturn games.
