Alright I think this title needs a proper talking thread and not just my profile status. Let's start off in the beginning with a poll shall we? Post your favorite memes, your favorite lover, or just brag about the time you put Anders in his place after you found his manifesto in your manor.

Dragon Age: Origins all the way.

The game definitely does have a lack of encounter design, its always just you walking into a room and finding darkspawn for 80% of the game.
Also the color palette is also doesn't help it's lack of variety of just browns,Grey's, and greys, and in the deep roads they nearly blend in the landscape. I did appreciate sone variety within the darkspawn but in terms of battle variety it can really be hit or miss depending on the build or just be a potion addict and solo after the crew is wiped.

Dog for me every time, that mabari was so tough he'd always be the last one standing whenever I used him. God bless that canine. Being the mechanically best companion in the game will do that for you.

Dragon Age II also had me soloing until I just became the party healer. Never felt like being anything other than a mage. Not sure if it's the matter of pacing or just fact the swordplay never felt like it hit the models proper.

The mage is also I think the funnest class in 2 on top of that. I cannot play a warrior in that game, it feels so rough.

Origins is great, Inquisition is decent. 2 and Veilguard belong in the 🗑️. 2's combat was bad, the copy & paste dungeons were so lazy, and Kirkwall was so ugly and gamey looking even for a 7th gen game.

Inquisition was the last semi decent game Bioware put out.

Codexes are fun to collect but I kind of want a library to raid or house them in, or just read other peoples books or titles. Sure in Origins that wasn't possible but past that... As cheap is that can be woth storytelling it would have been a backup to lore or scenes forgotten. Like that note Hawke makes about the book shelf if you romance Fenris you'll find out they're helping Fenris read and he has been improving.

I loved DA:Origins when it came out. I was an old schooler, grew up playing CRPGs in the late 80s on my C64, graduated to the isometric stuff of the 90s, and when the 2000s came and we had Morrowind and DA:O and Mass Effect, I was still on board. Loved them. DA was essentially Baldur's Gate, but with a 3D engine and a more dramatic, soap-opera-ey story. It was my dream CRPG.

Then DA2 came out. Ok, was nice, but that recycled dungeon design and the "point and click" travelling where you were just visiting tiny dioramas every 5 minutes and doing dialog-laden quests? Didn't care for it. Combat was also too fast and twitchy for my taste.

Inquisition was....odd. I hated it at first, but the combat was slower and felt more like DA:O, and the gear and upgrade system was actually pretty brilliant and I went through the game and its expansions twice because of it. Solas was also an incredibly well written character and made me generate a female elf just to romance him in my 2nd playthrough.

Veilguard's combat was atrocious though. It didn't even feel like an RPG. I couldn't bring myself to finish it. Plus I liked none of the characters either. And the new designs, especially what they did to Varric. I doubt I'll ever bother with the series after that since it killed my desire for it. Sort of like the new Star Wars sequels killed my love for that franchise.

Wish I could change the poll. But how many of you actually threaded the whole series under your choices? I never did as some bug prevented my Origins save data to never be loaded to DA2 or maybe it was because I refused to get an account and I never did for Inquisition because well same thing no account and it was a different machine. I have the all 3 games on Steam so that could change now.

I definitely did for Origins into DA2, I don't remember having to make an account or anything on the 360 for it but I could be wrong since it was like 18 years ago. For Inquisition I had to use the Keep tool to redo my choices since I jumped ship from Xbox to the PS4 for it. The Keep was cool, man, sad to see it go.

Well the overlords we call EA can salivate at me making an account to grab all the DLC I got via Steam's complete edition, now I can properly get romanced and then kissed blocked by a prince who is probably a worse rogue and grab the mabari a Fereldan should always have.
