Dear Journal, it's me again, Doug...

Easily one of favorite shows (I'd honestly call it comfort viewing). Tends to get a bad rap online as "boring" and "slow". I kind of liked the Disney sequel "Brand Spanking New Doug" but I haven't seen it since it was still airing

My older brother and I watched the shit out of OG Doug. I like Disney's Doug, but nothing can top the original 90s slice of life Western animated show. "I Need Mo Allowance" still stays in my head!

The original Nickelodeon run? It's great.
The Disney run? Trash. Pretty much every character, including the titular Doug, was written significantly worse and the very first episode is just a huge middle finger to fans of the Nickelodeon run.

Agreed, kind of took offense to Connie being sent off to fat camp. Though I am happy that it's available on Disney Plus, it was considered lost media for quite some time

I honestly forgot about that. Like I said before, I don't hate the Disney sequel, but I find little reason to go back and watch.

Doug, Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Double Dare, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Pete and Pete, Rocket Power, Ren & Stimpy, etc., were my childhood. We had it so good. Spongebob was the last good thing Nickelodeon created.

I rarely caught Doug on back then but Classic Nick was Great, Old Spongebob, Rocko, The Last Airbender and Invader Zim were fun.

Can you guys believe what became of Amanda Bines? I was a huge fan of stuff like All that! and The Amanda Show! as a kid.

By the way, Kenan And Kel is supposedly coming out with a new movie! They're going to meet Frankenstein (unless what I saw was fake) but I fucking love Kenan and Kel. Even the new movie was pretty good

Doug was one of those shows that, if I saw it on, I would watch it...

I liked it well enough back when it was airing, but i was always more of a Grim Adventures, Invader Zim, Beavis and Butt-Head, and The Oblongs kind of fan.

But I found Doug to be a nice, down to earth show... more grounded in reality, well, that of a kid with a wildly vivid imagination. It was an interesting show, by no means did I dislike it. Again, I would watch it if I happened across it, but it’s not something I actively sought out.

However, I fully understand why people loved it and fondly remember it to this day. I’ve never seen the Disney version, and honestly, I don’t want to.

I always liked Doug. I never found it boring or slow. It felt more real and dealt with complex real life subjects most the time, so it was highly relatable.

One of my favorite episodes is when Doug daydreams as Quailman and has to face Roger as Dr. Klotzenstein who had hypnotized everyone and brainwashed them into eating his junk food, and the cure is getting everyone to eat beets.

I'm kind of torn, Cartoon Network definitely had a much stronger output in the late 90's with their "Cartoon Cartoons" than Nick did, where on the flipside, I'd struggle to name much of anything noteworthy from Nick around that timeframe aside from maybe the live-action stuff like the Amanda Show
