It's DOOM. You can't go wrong either way to be honest. I think the PC MIDI OST is far more immersive. The low-quality sounds pumped out by whatever your PC was using for audio, combined with the (at the time) massive gore and body parts, leaned much more into the otherworldliness of it, or at least I think so.

As user @jankusanagi pointed out, the game sounded different depending on what you were packing, whether it was a Sound Blaster, Gravis Ultrasound, or something else.
But this also rings true for the PSX version. That version of DOOM will sound far better on a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system than coming out of a set of TV speakers.

For me, OG DOS DOOM...
