the ps5 sucksss in terms of games
sure its impressive specs wise but oh my god i dont care about your HD thingymagingy, sony, i just want to enjoy VIDEO GAMES
every generation of playstation had tons of games
the ps1 had a "random bullshit, go!" mentality
the ps2 had a nice mix of games for younger and older audiences
the ps3 had action stuff and also little big planet
the ps4 wanted to be artsy fartsy so we got cinematic stuff
the ps5 has ps4 games and ai games on the store page also you cant buy it for like a year or two cuz scalpers
chad warden would be disappointed with the state that playstation is at right now!
every ps5 game is either something that can run on a ps4 or its not an exclusive and also got released on pc so its not really an exclusive
yknow i excused this at first cuz hey we had a pandemic so fair enough i suppose, its been 5 years and we still have nothing
i dont fucking care about your ultra fast SSD or how slick it looks or how fast it is
YOURE NOT USING THESE TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES TO MAKE BETTER GAMES SO WHATS THE POINT, games already look good enough we dont need to fixate on these things when the main point of the console is NOT there
i loved my ps4, it was chunky, it was somewhat slow at times, the fans sounded like i was going to get publicly executed by a jet plane engine, but guess what? it didnt matter, there were fun games releasing like every other week and i enjoyed sharing around discs with my extended family to play them
sure i sometimes didnt enjoy some games (my cousin who took my n.sane trilogy disc and gave me tony hawk proskater 5 and then gave back my disc after you scratched it everywhere FUCK YOU) but it was fun! you had games from everywhere it was fun checking out what games were gonna come out
nowadays games come out, then it turns out its a live service then the game will get discontinued 3 weeks after it launched and then have 30 billion game developers publicly executed cuz guess what execs will blame everyone but their own 500 year old ass for the same copy and paste live service game while the developers get paid 2 packs of used newports and spat out gum and 0 creative control
uhhhh TLDR; execute all executives

The 9th generation represents the death of console gaming
There's really barely any good reason to have a console instead of a PC
"but muh demon souls" if you're in THESE forums and would rather buy a PS5 to play that than just emulating it on PS3, you're at the wrong place.

Nintendo is really slowing down its output and the latest Mario Kart was ass. I'm willing to bet that sooner or later the last bastion of console exclusivety (Nintendo) will go the same way as Sony. They used to be ADAMANT about never releasing mobile games, and look at where we are now.

But pekora is on death stranding

the ps5 sucks in term of price and hardware. Im glad I got mine dirt cheap pre-owned.

The games library is not all bad it´s just more like Oh I own these on PC oh I can buy this on PC DIRT CHEAP.

Only reason I got one is my partner has always been gaming on console and when asked don´t want a PC. So I got my partner a PC becuse Genshin is soon not gonna work on PS4 anymore.

So now my partner is happy playing Genshin and found a new favorite Honokai star trial which is not on PS4 same with Wuthering waves also not on PS4.

And I can if I want play demon souls remake because Sony with a horse slong up their ass don´t wanna port it to PC nor bloodborn. Would be nice if I could own all Fromsoft games I like on steam. I mean I already own Dark souls 1-3 + dark souls remaster + Elden ring + armored on steam.

I mean I was super happy that I can own Star ocean 1 to 6 on PS4. I fucking hate it if I had to own all 6 games on 3 different console.

PS5 is worth if you don´t own a PC or console the PS5 is not worth the normal asking price. When you can get a decent gaming rig for just 100 bucks more and the PC allot you to do 100 other things + modding.

I agree with this so much. Also, glass half full: This has been a great way to save money on games this generation. I haven't needed to upgrade my PS4-era PC at all this generation, and the one game I cared about that couldn't run (Clair Obscur) was easily played with one month of GeForce Now, which was significantly cheaper than buying a PS5 or a new graphics card.

This is the first generation I've been able to just take a breather and not have to worry about upgrading my hardware every five years. And I'll be ready to upgrade whenever the influx of good high-end games comes around.

Unfortunately, man… the trend is only getting worse. After 2020, when everyone was stuck at home, a lot of people ran to videogames just to have something to do. And a huge part of this new wave of players doesn’t really care about actual gaming, they just want the basic package: a PS5 with FIFA 2027, GTA 6, and that’s it. They don’t care about variety, about identity, about creativity… they just want to “play,” not to really play.

That’s why you don’t see this crowd in places like this: they don’t care enough to talk about what they’re consuming. They just consume. And of course, this only breeds those annoying fanboys who defend plastic and logos like it’s a religion.

And you know what… I even remembered something that happened recently. Last month, the wi-fi/bluetooth board of my PS3 Super Slim died. I went to a technician to check the repair price: around 93 dollars. At that price, I’d rather buy another PS3 and clean it up and repaste it myself. But that’s not even the main point.

While I was talking to the guy, another customer walked in looking for a custom PS5 controller. The store didn’t have any. And after some small talk about whatever, the dude simply decided to buy a regular PS5 controller, the same absurd 93 dollars, like it was nothing. No hesitation. No thought. No sense of value.

And that’s what proves my point: most of these new players just play, without weight, without care, without passion. It doesn’t matter if it’s a remake, remaster, or re-re-released version, honestly, sometimes they even prefer those. The truth is, if you ask most people who “like to play games” what came before the PS4, they freeze. Anything below the PS2 is basically ancient ruins to them.

At the end of the day, companies are just giving the majority what they want, even if what the majority wants is garbage. Look at Assassin’s Creed: the last one that really felt like Assassin’s Creed, with actual identity, was Unity. But the more recent ones, the generic and soulless ones, are the best selling. Go figure. But of course, this is all based on my own experience; nothing I've said is absolute truth.

I feel like this console generation has been a huge disappointment for the most part with games focusing a way too much on the graphics department trying to make games as realistic and detailed as part while not focusing on making the gameplay fun and exciting.

I guess my hot take a8out this generation is that less games 8eing stuck on sony's weird looking rectangle forever is a good thing

I've had the exact opposite experience lol. I think games have been very fun lately, and there's loads of stuff on PS5 I enjoy. Yeah, it doesn't have an exclusive experience anymore, but everyone complained back when it did, and now turn around and complain that it doesn't feel unique when it doesn't. Honestly, the biggest benefit for having a PS5 is that there is no way you can get a PC will similar capabilities anywhere near the same price

I made the mistake of trying to get a PS5 a year after it launched and back then they were almost entirely unavailable as well as being hard to find for a reasonable price.
Now just like with the Analogue Pocket they were unavailable for so long I have no intention of ever owning one at any price. Now I have found a kind of equilibrium between my Switch 1, Steam Deck OLED and PS4 Pro, and I will be skipping this generation and waiting to see if the PS6 has more than just one game. Although lucky for me most of the PS5 games I want to play are already on PS4.

I’ve always thought this but personally its biggest flaw is severely lacking compatibility with the ps3 and their non existent support for their 2, yes two, ps2 emulators, further putting the nail in the coffin. On top of overcharging 70 to 80 dollars for games (that I love, mind you) with shallow content and you have a severely lacking system where the only appeal is that it is genuinely fantastic for playing some niche Japanese series, like how the ps4 version of judge eyes looks visually more pleasing than the butchered ps5 remaster (which is the default steam version) or how most Koei games which have horrendous pc ports play fine on ps5.

Some might call you elitist for this, but I think you're right. The pandemic was part of the reason why the Nintendo Switch got a huge bump in success and, most especifically, Animal Crossing New Horizons. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Animal Crossing, but I think New Horizons is very lacking from what little I've seen.

Every PS5 exclusive is, or will inevitable be released on Steam. The PS5 has no games.
Not in a PS3/PS4 "It only has five true exclusives" way. No, the PS5 has no games.
But its fanboys will point and laugh at the Xbox for having "no exclusives" citing how all its indie game & strategy titles that aren't available on the PS4/PS5 are on gamepass PC. "If it's on PC its not exclusive" with absolutely no sense of self awareness or irony.

Sure Sony fans, you don't even have the monopoly on anime games anymore the Switch & Steam ripped that carpet right out from under you lmao

I sold my PS5 to buy a gaming laptop. It took me about two years & a few steam sales but I have my entire library again, and it costed significantly less- even compared to used physical games.

This is where enshittification, executive/corporate meddling, and the graphical arms race have finally put us. Everything needs to sell more, so needs more raytracing and got-damn PhysX hair, so needs higher production budgets, so needs longer dev cycles, so needs to sell more. Ergo, fewer games, safer bets, and despite those safer bets, bigger failures because a "safe bet" is just being a freaking trend chaser and creating an oversaturated market.

We peaked around the sixth-gen consoles. Not because the games were inherently the best or muh nostalgia, there were plenty stinkers back then, but because everything since has just ballooned to more and more untenable levels; risk-taking and creativity in the triple-A sector have been all but completely stamped out at this point. MTX, FOMO, "grind" games, and pricing in general are boned completely sideways. All of the pride that Nintendo used to have in building products that last has instead been rerouted to litigative pride of their IP because how dare someone try to compete in their corner of the ballpit.

I liked my PS3 all told but half of what I remember playing on it is digital rereleases of PSX games I'd missed out on, and the small-studio games that started cropping up like weeds for cheap on the PSN because dev cycles for the big-name titles were already getting so long.

Bionic Commando Rearmed, Noby Noby Boy, something like four wildly different but equally awesome PixelJunk games, Super Stardust HD, Shatter, Scott Pilgrim. I'm really glad that the industry eventually got over its "every game made forever from this point onward needs to be the pinnacle of 3D tech" phase. Now I just wish it'd finally get over its "every big-budget game made forever from this point onward needs to be the pinnacle of 3D tech" phase.

Not to mention the "executives hold 92% of the company's wealth while their hundreds of employees contract workers starve and get evicted and/or fired" phase, but that's another horse's carcass entirely.

I mentioned this before but the PS5's main worth for me is optimization from Capcom regarding Monster Hunter Wilds. On a PC, there are too many horror stories and annoying issues in Steam. Unless your PC is way above the recommended specs, you'd be better off on PS5. Capcom seems to be focusing on the PS5's performance and the established benchmark for running the game.

I noticed something annoying about the PS5 and maybe Sony in general. The blu ray drive ALWAYS starts to run everytime you play a game...including digital ones. When the blu ray drive activates, it hums really really loud, like it's trying to make a big dump. WHY? During the PS4 days, playing a digital game does not trigger the drive. Why is it like this on PS5? Is Sony trying to accelerate the Blu ray drive's wear and tear so we'd have something to replace...maybe the entire PS5? I wouldn't be surprised with their controller design that's sure to drift with enough usage instead of switching to TMR Hall effect sticks (which works great so far now that we've modded our controller).

You're just as fine with a PS4,
the ONLY reason i'm happy with my PS5 is it's NOT A DAMN JET ENGINE WHEN I PLAY GAMES
like seriously, i have to check to see if my PS5 is even ON sometimes or I forget it's still on. it's so quiet
all the games that used to make my ps4 sounding like it'll takeoff, do absolutely nothing on PS5
and secondary reason it runs my PS4 games much faster (especially on the SSD)

but i'm not mad i got a PS5 since I use it a lot, plenty of (PS4) exclusives, idc i know a lot of previously exclusive came to PC, but my PS5 is better than any PC i own right now anyways.

but if you CAN get a PC better than a PS5, you have 99% of all games playable,
using emulators included (course limited for Xbox one+, Switch 2, and PS4/5 games right now)

real talk you want exclusives you never go wrong with Nintendo, Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, fire emblem, xenoblade, smash bros, pokemon, animal crossing, Bayonetta (besides 1)

I really cant enjoy most modern games now just due to every game seems to be either shallow mobile like games and the big tripple a ones seem so souless, full of micro transactions and like they are just trying to tick a big checklist. All creativity, edge and soul from the ps1,2,3 era seams replaced with sanitised slop with incidious undertones of pushing a agenda. Compare games like, crash bandicoot, klonoa, timesplitters 2, burnout takedown/ revenge, motorstorm, ratchet and clank trilogy, jak and daxter, the earlier tony hawks, oblivion, skyrim, ridge racer, wipeout assians creed black flag, resident evil 4 etc with modern games and there was a magic there wich is gone now. its not just nostalgia the diffrence is the games where created by people with a passion, trying there best to make enjoyable video games they want to play themselves with some creative freedom to do that. Now thats nearly gone. Now its made by big mega coorp companys that ratchet and clank would of mocked in the first ratchet game lol. Thats my view anyway.

Who need a PS5 when you have a PS4.
The Ps5 is so irrelevant I almost forgot it even existed for a moment.
I prefer my jet engine over that Ps4 emulator at least the Ps5 has 3 Uses you can uses as a door blocker or a dusk collector or a deco piece if you are into that I would advice for a painting instead though.
Oh the Ps5 also could serve as a lesson on how not to do a console for future companies.
