Not sure if this is a known issue, but whenever I move my controller stick in DK64 I get what sounds like an error sound effect. I get the same effect when I hit L1 on my controller, but it also happens whenever I move the left stick up, down, left, or right in game. I am using a PS4 controller with DS4 software and playing the game through retroarch using the MugenPlus core. Anyone know what this might be? If it matters, I am playing the tag character hack.

I did try booting up a ROM of the original game without the hack and it doesn't have the same sound glitch going on so I am assuming it is an issue with hack in particular. I will leave this up anyway just in case someone has any insight. I would prefer to play with the hack to save time, but I will rock without it if I have to.

It probably would help a lot more if we could actually hear the error sound in question, like, is it a system error noise, and emulator error noise, or an in-game noise?

i'm playing the tag hack version on project64 and its not doing any error messages,
L button idk what it even does on this game but no noises.
i can't play the "original" man you save way too much time with INSTANT tag the games like 3x longer without it lol.

Thanks for engaging; I am actually just going to drop it on emulator because Nintendo just announced it coming to the N64 collection on their virtual console or whatever it's called. My daughter enjoyed Bonanza with me which is why I wanted to play through 64 with her. I'll just wait a few days and play it on there so I can use the OG controller. If a moderator sees this, feel free to delete my post or I can. Not sure if this is an issue anyone else has ever experienced or sought help for. I didn't come across anything via googling.

Out of curiosity, what button is the tag assigned to? I wonder if that was the issue and the sound I was hearing was trying to tag before I had unlocked Diddy or any other kongs.

tag uses the D-pad left/right, AND the L button
WITHOUT the krusha addendum patch, yeah you cannot tag until you find the rest
i was using the addendum patch, you can swap DK or krusha at the start of the game already
so i downloaded the NON krusha patched rom, and ONLY hitting the d-pad or L, makes the error noise.
so you're right, it's making the noise because you're trying to tag with no one else to tag to
that probably means your d-pad buttons are being pressed when you move the joystick, check how your d-pad buttons are assigned.
