I'm playing through the first game and I'm almost done. I can see how people can enjoy it but it's not that good. So I have to ask does this series get better? Cause I'm considering not playing the rest

Well, I watched Pikasprey Blue go through a couple of them and they all looked a bit... same-y to me? The one thing that kept me watching was the commentary of the people playing them.

I didn't make it very far on my solitary attempt at the first one, either.

Take everything I said with a grain of salt, however.

I've heard something similar I'll give the series a second shot with 2 and if I don't enjoy it then I'll drop Battle Network. Also can I ask what's your pfp from?

All the Mega Man games in general are somewhat the same. I think that you have to enjoy the gameplay to go to them.

The first game’s one of the weaker entries, it improves massively by the second. 4 is kinda ass, but other than that it’s only up from there

1 battle is kind of meh but great story, 2 and 3 has synchro and style change, 4 and 5 also soul unison system, 6 has beast +soul system. yes it keeps getting better on storyline and battleplay

The first game was a test to see if people like the spin off of the blue bomber. Is the hardest for the wrong reasons

BN2 was an upgrade of the first one

BN3 was a mistake with the whole "tournament as a story mode" and be part of another side game that was RNG heavy nintendo hard (Battle Chip Challenge). Not to mention the start of the pokemon version thing

BN4 was more a "we are sorry for the last game" kinda game. It returned to the story mode and leave the tournament and other side stuff to 4.5 (a side game where you are the player and can choose any navi.... too bad that is an always navi online gameplay and offline is just a menu instead of an avatar in the world of BN walking around and challenge characters and missions from the main series, kinda a wasted potential if you ask me)

BN5 tried to add something new with the Liberation Missions and the story starts to get good

BN6 is where the series got to the peak of gameplay and story. It was a good finale for the BN saga

There are other BN games (like the more classic Megaman gameplay Network Transmission) but the main ones gets better

The key word is if you like the BN gameplay and want to see how it gets better

The story gets better in the last games

If you don't like the first one then no it doesn't get better.

Yes, it really does. The first game was an experiment and not everything hit the mark. Thankfully they quickly realized what didn't work and fixed it in 2.
It's a bit late now, but Operate Shooting Star is a remake of 1 on the DS that fixed most of its problems.

Oh indeed it gets better with BN2, so much better I'd say.

To put it simply, BN1 and BN4 are the low points (even more so BN4, it's horribly designed, meanwhile BN1 is just barebones)

BN3 and BN5 are very good and solid games, but have something that holds them back (BN3 has too much backtracking, like... Only one boss scenario on BN2 is about backtracking the entire net and it's at the end, but on BN3 there's at least 3 of these and each one takes forever, BN5 on the other hand has mandatory tactic RPG missions at some parts, you either love them or hate them to bits)

Now, the masterpieces which are BN2 and BN6. Both are really, really good and have great pacing. Mechanically, BN2 is simpler but it still got plenty of stuff everywhere, BN6 as the last one has a lot more stuff to consider in each fight, even to a point where the things you get can be so powerful, you'll be unstoppable as long as you manage everything correctly, so there's a lot more strategies. Both have the best plots in my opinion too, and the best balance of mechanics and strategy. Give these a chance at least :]

Also, you'll enjoy the games more if you try to go for unique strategies with what you have at hand. Learn how to use the folder and letter system to make each battle more fun or search for guides to get ideas since most of the meat is hidden in obscure Net areas and small details in the overworld.

https://www.therockmanexezone.com/ has a lot of information of each game so check it out if you want. ::thumbsupwario

To add onto what everyone else has added:

At least starting from BN2, the generic Internet areas finally look different from each other. Nothing like going to Internet Area 16 in BN1 and not being sure if you're even going the right way. Where were those maps...
