Does Retroarch annoy anyone else?

Nope. You just don't know what you're doing.
Which is fine. Learning it is kinda hard.
But it's not the program's fault.

Retroarch is like Linux in that sense.

Retroarch is like how MAME used to be: it's become the go-to app every front end wants to use, whether you like it or not. (Remember when people started referring to arcade games as 'mame' games? )

I wish emulation station would have lemuroid as an option.

Works perfectly fine for me with launchbox as a front end, plenty of options to adjust and to tinker with.
I don't know why people have so much trouble with it

Im glad its preconfigured on most of my builds and hard drives. I find tinkering with it easy for graphics and resolution but im not confident to add or takeaway games.

Anyone can learn to use/tolerate any UI in time, but I am still loathe to do so when it's as fiddly, cumbersome and user-hostile as RetroArch's interface, I only use the damn thing when I can't find objectively better emulators for a platform that have stand-alone, up-to-date versions, such as the case of the Sega Mega Drive.

What I'd give for a version of Blast'em or GPGX with a nice Fusion or DuckStation-esque UI.

For the ones that mentioned wanting an standalone Sega Saturn emulator, you could try using Kronos, Yabasanshiro or Ymir.

Ymir could be the gold standard before long, it's looking really promising, especially the enhanced transparency feature.

I love RetroArch, I've been using it for a long time... but I still get lost sometimes when searching for a specific setting/option ::nervous-prinny it seems like the amount of menus does something weird to my brain

The best thing going for RetroArch right now is that you can download it on Steam AND it supports Steam Remote Play so you and your friends can technically play any multiplayer retro game online together!

But yes it can be overcomplicated and difficult to troubleshoot at times.

I think modded consoles are the best for emulator machines overall .

But i wouldnt recommend modding an classic xbox nowadays except for playing xbox-isos alone .

My story about my modded Xbox : Tried today to copy GB , GBC , GBA , Snes and Sega games into my modded xbox by burning DVDs ( because im way too stupid to use the FTP-server shenanigans for it and the xbox doesnt have an USB-plug except the controller usb-port that doesnt read USb-sticks after 2002 ) and my xbox couldnt read the GBA and Snes files to copy those .
So i renamed the games to have a smaller name ( but still recognisable what game it is ) because long titles , commas and stuff are for the xbox not readable and refuse to show . I wasted 3 DVDs and only the GBA , GBC and GB couldnt be copied .

Where is Tech-jesus when you needed him the most ?

Yeah, Retroarch permanently turned me away from all-in-one emulators.
That's not even getting into all the toxic behavior the main developer (allegedly) does to competition.

Yeah I fucking HATE it.
I only use it for my Vita because it’s convenient but you couldn’t pay me to use it anywhere else.

It all still works alright. Except when I want to play online english patched PS1 games in co-op with friends, for some reasons. I agree the UI and get through the menus is painful. But it's worth.

retroarch is a bit hard to learn because of all the menus and options
retroarch is like linux it takes time to learn but once you learn it its great to use

Know how to use it, and I hate it (just like all technology).

Better standalone emulators exist already for all consoles I give a fuck about.
