Does anyone still use GameFAQs?

GameFAQs is great! Such a huge collection of guides for old, forgotten or never known games. I don't really use cheat codes, but the cheats section often has a lot of information on unlockable things and the saves can come in handy too. The forums are an absolute cesspool though. x) Your mileage may vary on the forums for older games, but anything newer is guaranteed to be a nightmare. Every conversation just devolves into a shit slinging match, usually for no reason at all. Nothing wrong with a disagreement, but holy hell, act like adults and be civil.

Yeah although youtube longplays are more convenient for really precise actions hard to describe.

But I also like descriptive, spoiler-free guides while having proper categorisation.

I use the guides and I sometimes read the archived forum posts. The user base is constantly shrinking. I’m worried that it will be shut down in a few years and everything will be nuked.

I still use them for guides if I am stuck somewhere. The boards can be hit or miss. If I have a question on something that may or may not be on a guide I look it up on the boards to see if anyone has asked about it. Sometimes I'll see some ridiculous arguments on there, but sometimes I can see some useful information that could actually help me out. It is also kinda interesting to see the past discussions that have been made with different games.

I sometimes revisit the same 20-year-old guides for PS2 games that I used to back in the day, for when I'm playing those same old games. I used to LIVE in that website, not anymore. Hell, I almost forgot it existed for around a decade.

I don't even bother using google anymore, i just use brave search, seems more accurate.
But most people use google which is why most sites that aren't Reddit and Quora are in a fast decline.

Yup, same as most here; guides, cheats, saves, and boards once in a while just for curiosity. Lived on the Resident Evil social board when I was like, 15-17. And now that y’all mention it, think I’m gonna go through and save guides for every game I own…

Their repo of save game files is awesome !
And some of the guides that are on there are still quite useful if you like to read ( though as many have stated ... can just watch a longplay on YouTube to have an idea of what to do )

Does anyone else besides me still go to GameFAQs? I mostly use it to learn about games and keep an ear to the ground for new releases. I used to be semi-active on the boards but not so much any more. And of course I also use it to search up more games to download for my emulators.

From time to time I will use it for it's intended purpose as the FAQs and guides the site has are still quite useful. I know I could just watch a video on what to do but sometimes I like using a text reference so it doesn't interrupt the gameplay flow as much.

I also like how you can also see games listed by franchise, when they were released, and for what platforms. This is how I like to look up games for my emulators because then I can just go down the list and get all the games in the franchise. I recently went through all of the Gundam games using this method.

Anyway, do you still pay GameFAQs a visit once in a while? Because I think you should.
I only use it for those old ass 2000s threads that have hella information on certain games

I still use them, reading the board of musou and wrestling games.

And uses them to how much space a game uses for it's data installation

Well google themselves are facing some tough times with the FCC wanting to break them up so we'll see how long it lasts but i agree it's a sad fact that most people just use chrome not thinking about what that entails.

Only for the guides and the ocassional review, i don't trust professional critics anymore after the "Beat Sekiro with cheats" fiasco

Honestly i don't care if they use cheats to beat games...as long as they are up front about it.

There is a justifiable reason to cheat for reviewers, that being that they need to review multiple games in a week, my problem is that they either lie about the good and bad of a game depending on how much a publisher pays them, or they mock a game not because of actual worthwhile things but because of something they themselves don't like (the main character isn't fat and ugly, the game is too hard, just dislike the genre in general).

Use the guides, cheats and unlockables and they have some Translation guides, for some Japanese only games like most of the Sakura Taisens, Langrisser V, Wachenröder, etc.

The boards almost always felt like a handful of helpful, lovely people surrounded by a bunch of the most annoying asshats the community had to offer. I look back on my time with the website somewhat fondly, but I definitely don't regret not sticking with it or going back at some point.

That said, if I ever need a guide it is the first and usually last place I will ever go. Nothing hits like a Gamefaqs guide!

I was never an active member but it’s still my go-to place for guides.

It’s really funny to google a specific issue in a game you’re playing and click the GameFaqs link because they, without fail, always end up with regulars hating each other and derailing the topic like two posts in lol, regardless if the posts are from 2008 or 2020.

I still use their guides from time to time and their boards are usually one of the few places that ever discussed minor details from certain obscure games. The good guide about gamefaq guide is that by being text-only, they avoid spoiling what other websites/video guides would otherwise show on a click.
