Does anyone remember Eternal Champions on Sega?
This fighting game was quite a jewel, there were many secret commands and back then, no internet telling you all the combinations. It had good mechanics and a cool variety of characters.

Had a friend who owned the Sega CD version with the cinekills. I thought it was just ok, but my experience with it was fairly limited. He thought it was the best fighting game ever at the time.

Yeah I used to play it a lot at my cousins house

I rented it once but I was already too into Mortal Kombat 1 on my Genesis back then to pay it any mind. Other than that I don't remember too much about it.

I vaguely remember Eternal Champions. A friend of my brother's had it and would bring it over from time to time when they hung out and drank in the garage some weekends....

I played it a few times and seem to remember liking it well enough, but it's been so long ago, to be honest.

That was a cool game. Played it at a friend's house. Welcome!

What to say about Eternal Champions?

- The concept of bringing together warriors from different eras always works - Fight of Gods is an excellent example of this.

- The characters were well thought out, even if some have very strange elements - like the "Vampire Bruce Lee", "Kung-Fu Bandit who refuses to kill", "Atlantean who fights Capoeira", "Tae Kwon Do Cowboy" and "Death is dead".

- The graphic violence is VERY well drawn and detailed, even better than Mortal Kombat. But this seems to be a forced element, placed as a desperate way for this game to attract attention and cover any costs that the first version caused.

- But the weakest point is the gameplay. VERY clunky, with some control response problems and to make matters worse it tries to reinvent the wheel with both special move commands and fatalities, which require a series of things, not just the command, to be activated.

Interesting game. But World Heroes executed this concept better.

Ending this little text with the characters I liked the most:

- The Wizard, very cool and rare visual in fighting games.

- Muay Thai Cyborg for the same reasons.

- I never imagined a Snake would have such a sad story.

- The Politician is the "ultimate joke character," made to subvert the game's mythology and has a move where he steals money from his opponent.

- And Raven, Geras's grandmother, a character that fooled me! Her picture seemed to be a pretty black woman, but when I chose her, she showed that she was AN OLD WOMAN WITH SAGGY BREASTS! ARGH!

Cool game, a bit mediocre on the gameplay section but a nice world heroes/mortal kombat like fighter. Someone should make a Mugen remake

I remember the TV commercial for it. It seemed cool in Mortal Kombat way, but like Mortal Kombat, I don't think it plays well. It's too stiff and clunky to be fun for me.

Never played it but seen it. And boy is it exciting and hilarious at the same time. I think the Sega CD offers more.

yes i really enjoyed it actually , a film is said to be in the works too
I didn't know about that, I will keep an eye for it, would be really cool to watch a film on this game after so many years

I tried playing it years after on the switch (they put it on the switch online store) but the mechanics were still the old fashion ones. Clunky describes it very well. As a child I got really used to the commands and all the tricks, but I don't think I could get used to it now. A remake with updated controls/graphics would be really fun.

Too difficult for me. I must have made seven or eight attempts at getting past the first fight and failed every time. Have heard the final boss is the stuff nightmares are made of.

you can bluff your way through most of the game really doing basic stuff such as starting a fight jumping in with a kick and then a sweep kick followed by a hard punch - then throw some projectile - repeat till finish. but yeah that last fight is a pain but i did it a few times - you have to beat him multiple times with the one energy bar and each time you beat him he glows a different colour and is faster each time, you end up spending far more time blocking him then hitting him.

the sega cd has a hacked version available below

that lowers the game difficulty way down ( not really played much of the cd version but it has a ton of extra stuff included and is far gorier then the megadrive game)

Thanks! I have heard often than the Sega CD version is better, but I didn't see a lot of a difference myself. Then again, I didn't play it for long.

sega cd version has cutscenes , cinematic death scenes , the regular fatalities have lots more gore added , the megadrive version has 9 only characters to play as - the sega cd has.......22 characters ! ! and an extra boss called "Dark Champion" - its almost a sequel in a way
