That fandub was actually how I watched it years ago, too! I thought it was really good!

Furuya was basically the official voice of Mario in Japan for years until Charles came along. He voiced Mario in a bunch of commercials and OVAs and even voiced Mario in the actual games through the SNES Satellaview service.

Wish this got officially released in the U.S, sadly, it didn’t. Us Americans were busy making our own Mario movie that would eventually go down in infamy and start a curse that never dies. Oh yeah, and everyone fucking hates the ending in this Mario anime movie. Better than Rise of Skywalker’s ending though.

(COUGH OUTSIDEOFTHEMINECRAFTMOVIE COUGH) They've even went so far as to actually remedy the mistake created in the 90's and make a good Mario movie.
