PS3 Does anybody ever play Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns Of The Patriots

Id be delighted to but I sadly am lacking in hardware. I feel that is the one thing keeping most people from getting to it compared to any of the other entries

Sadly true, Konami need to release it alongside Peace Walker and Portable Ops eventually as part of some kind of collection
And you know, not price it at 60 bucks pretending its a new game
(Coping)

I used to have it, but having to sit for hours to install each chapter was extremely annoying (despite running from disc!), and I generally prefer the gameplay of MGSV anyway, so I'm not likely to go back to it anytime soon.

Man... woudnt that be nice, heres hoping they don't pull that card.

You can still play it online for free. It has ps3/pc crossplay now. Best and modt underrated online modes from back then ngl

Sure did. Loved the London segment in particular, wish more of the game had had an atmosphere like that. MGO was such a fun multiplayer mode back then, too. Wasn't it also one of the last PS3 games to feature free online multiplayer? Before PS+ became a thing, I mean.

It wasn't even that good of a movie. It was getting into peak Kojima weirdness. The commercials were cringe.
The commercials were the best part of it. I like when Kojimbo is weird, Death Stranding was way better than any MGS game post 3 and it's peak Kojima weirdness.

mgs4 is a top tier ps3 exclusives, there's a reason people want it to be ported as the main priority, in the next mgs vol collection

I respectfully disagree. I don't think creators should be undermining their stories with immersion breaking stuff. It could be fine as a promotional tactic or an extra/outtake type of thing. But now Kojima is a giant meme and can't be taken seriously anymore as a storyteller. I'm sure there are the contrarians that watch that garbo and thing it is clever or artistic, but its not what I consider to be good storytelling.

I meant to, but my pressed disc with newest update for the game (One that added trophies and removed MGO among other things) did not work right with my PAL Eur disc I had. Tested it even in different system, just something that happens with the copy I had.
I later got a US copy that should with better luck work fully with the update but for now I have not had new motivation come to me yet. I do know what happens in the game, seen a playthrough as a rommate in past played it.

How are the MGS 4 commercials immersion breaking? The only thing about the TV sections in MGS 4 that could potentially break someone's immersion is the interview with David Hayter (and even then it's inoffensive as hell), but the rest of them are fine and illustrate just how miserable living in the Metal Gear world is.
I don't think Kojima's all that clever a guy, but i appreciate someone doing something creative with Video Games that isn't pure soulless "realistic" garbage that 97% of games are nowadays.

The ridiculous one about the reality TV contest isn't immersion breaking?!? What does that have to do with the world of Metal Gear? It is a meme/joke at the expense of the consumer, to me it signals how unserious Kojima is about his story. A wink to the player, saying "yeah, this is all video game bullshit. Don't even attempt to take this seriously, because I'm not."

Its not necessarily about "realism", its about immersion. Even fantasy requires consistent rules and logic to be taken seriously.

The entirety of MGS 4 is a joke at the expense of the consumer because Kojimbo didn't give a fuck about the game and just wanted to be done with Metal Gear, but i still don't get why the TV section in specific has you in such a rage, it was one of the more inoffensive parts of the game compared to the stuff that happens in the actual plot. Also this is the same fucking series that has Cyborg Ninja's, a Shaman, a Bisexual Vampire and a guy who can controls bee's, Metal Gear never had consistent rules, unless you can explain to me stuff like Fortune blocking all of those missles at the end of MGS 2.

I have seen most of the TV stuff and I have no idea how you come to that conclusion. There is some corn to the production but it is clear it is all in-universe, bit with David Hayter at maximum is somewhat "rule breaking" unless snake's eye patch is a product instead of Otacon's custom making. The ads especially still are all more universe expanding than diminishing.

Nah, man, its serious cringe. You'd have to explain how its universe building, cause it seemed to me to be a bunch of lame jokes using in universe items and stuff. Like the lame cooking section referring to rations and eating snakes.

I guess the most offensive part to me is that they were trying to be funny and failed.

Don't get me wrong, the whole game had me in rage as to how much of a wet noodle it was compared to the first 3. It was clear that Kojima wanted to be done with MGS and was memeing at the expense of the player. Doesn't mean I have to kiss his ass for wasting 60 bucks and about 30 hours of my life.

I wish the game was 30 hours at least i'd maybe get more gameplay out of the whole package, but it's only like 15 hours long even if you watch all of the Cutscenes and boring ass mission briefings.

I have seen the vids few times, as teen and as adult and there is no outright attempt at humor in them. If any is intended, it is meant through the absurdity of the content, but the content itself is "earnest" in universe. Always backed with advertisement for the special units that work as bosses in the game. The snake cooking bit is still shot as a cooking show, and work as foreshadowing/red herring.

I don't know how you could say that it isn't an attempt at humor when the content is so outrageous and absurd. Just because you throw in some in universe references to connect it to the game, doesn't make it any less ludicrous. There's no way a cooking show where they are cooking rations, snakes and rats is believable in any universe, no matter how fantastic. And MGS is supposed to be somewhat realistic, with references to real world geopolitics.
