Do you usually go the "extra mile" when cooking?

I've also moved past "British food". Since discovering that canned salmon makes for a wonderful meat salad for sandwiches just like tuna, I've started picking the bones out, breaking it apart, and combining it with a generous amount of mayo and stopped boiling it to a sludge with instant ramen and canned vegetables.
 
Nope, I can't cook, period. I'm not gonna try to pretend, if it can be eaten without a cooking process then I will eat it.
 
Honestly I hate cooking food for my self for few reason.
1. I hate it because every time I have to prep food im always hungry and I just want the food faster so it just feels like a pain.
2. Making any good food cost a fortune today because you need species and veggies and veggies is cost more than the meat.
3. It´s not to fun to make food only for you self so I just throw together something simple.


Honestly I part of me wish I did not have to eat food at all as I can never afford to eat tasty food and I just have to buy cheap tasteless slop.
 
It's heartwarming when people cook for others and then both are satisfied and happy.

I like to feel the love and passion put on cooking so others can enjoy and then the cook feels realized and happy that the other enjoyed it.

PD: I don't cook but I try to help when I can or if I must.

Depends on the night. Dinner is where I do it most, but I tend to lean into doing it when I already know the recipe and feel comfortable with messing with it. However, I think others can relate, sometimes I just want to make the darn meal. No frills, just what I bought the ingredients to make.

But, when I feel comfortable to do so, I’ll go the extra mile. I’ll try my best to make what I cook look as good as I can, serve it up on the finest plate I own, and eat it. Because doing that kind of thing is good the soul. It’s healthy to make something and feel proud of yourself for it!
 
I'm sure what's the extra mile when cooking? Sometimes I experiment, sometimes it's instant sauce but it's all in the idea of what is the flavor I want. If I cook a steak, it's going to be natural, it's going to be on a pan skillet in butter on a bed of pan fried mushroom and onions before the steak hits the pan peppered and salted and will rest in its juices covered before eating. No rosemary, no smoke seasoning, no steak sauce, just prefect meat as it should be enjoyed. Sometimes I like stuff on the "bland" side but I like to taste what I'm eating and not drowning it in unnecessary flavor if it's not the flavor I want to eat.

That is why I have a missus I got no time to cook. Her cooking or takeaway for me I think it would be close to 2 decades since I cooked
You sound young, wait till you get to your 50. If i am too debilitated / tiered / need more caffeine, i have microwave easy recipes also.

Have you tried 4 eggs mixed with soy source, seasame oil, add fresh veggies of your choice, and Garlic. Then microwave for 4 - 6 minutes at 1000w and you have an awesome protein and veggie packed quick treat that is miles better then our takeaway.

Works in a steamer also.

Remember, the best food going in the the one that you know what is in side of it.

Takeaway is awesome as a treat a few times a week, but you make some serious savings if you can just throw things together.

It depends on my mood. If I'm in a good mood, I go the extra mile and treat myself well with whatever ingredients I have on hand. If I'm in a bad mood or feeling down, I’ll just have something simple to get by. Luckily, I'm usually in a good mood, so I tend to treat myself regularly.

I try to. I've been trying to get better at the basics, getting the cook right on plain chicken before I start tossing a shit ton of stuff on it. I'm getting better, but I never had anyone to teach me so it's taking a long time.

Luckily I've only really snagged my nails no far. They do a good job of keeping me from hacking off my fingies.

Food can effect your mood believe it or not, and often in my case gives me issues with gut brain axis if i eat poorly (to feel good at the time, which is days of paying for it later). Juice often not worth the squeez for me.

Sounds like your doing awesome if your in a good mood usually.

Here's a typical work lunch for me. Jasmine rice, ground turkey, green onions, cabbage and a few other veggies, mostly flavored with liquid aminos and sriracha. I make pretty simple stuff most of the time since I'm just cooking for myself. Instant ramen, rice bowls, etc. I sautee most stuff in a frying pan, I do have a wok but haven't used it yet. I make basic stuff but I like to add something extra to it, like minced green onions and furikake for rice bowls and an egg or two for ramen. Simple, but makes a big difference in my opinion. If I'm having friends over I'll heat some snacks up in the air fryer or make something a bit more substantial on the stove, usually quesadillas or omlettes.

For sure it can! Most of those not-so-great days I try to eat homemade comfort food to improve my mood. I just find it especially hard sometimes and resort to basic meals just to go by: sandwiches, plain rice, etc. Nothing bad or unhealthy, really, but not fancy either.
I try to avoid junk food as much as I can because the quick highs aren't worth the downs that come after.

Thank you! I wouldn't say awesome myself, but I'll take it. I just try and be positive so I don't get bothered by every tiny annoyance that comes with everyday life (which used to happen).

Eh, my cooking generally involves a crockpot and throwing in whatever the partner wants for dinner that night or the next day. Most of the time, she cooks when she is not working a night shift. I am not Gordon Ramsay or Uncle Roger over here. I mean, I make a pretty good pot of chili or good pasta dishes. But really, most of my dishes are crockpot meals, so not a lot goes into them aside from meat, vegetables, and seasoning. If it’s chicken and rice, then rice too. Like tonight, my partner is night-shifting, so there is no need to cook. I’m just going to grab a pizza on the way home. ::cirnoshrug
 
Not when only making food for myself. I like food but I’m not huge on eating dinner so I usually just make pretty utilitarian food without too much effort.
Not that I don’t try, I just usually don’t go this extra mile.
