Do you use DVDs nowadays?

I still use a bunch of dvds, but only because I rebuilt a small collection after getting rid of most of them.

I like to think of them as an insurance policy considering how shitty streaming companies are. I have a 2TB hard drive for digital backup purposes too, but it's still a HDD and I don't trust those moving parts.

almost every day for ps2 esr games! lol

also for the simpsons DVD collection too

Seeing how a majority of classic shows are stuck in DVD format, I pretty much have to lol. I do kinda hate the fuzzy image quality in some spots, but seeing how there are some streaming apps that are getting rid of these same shows I just have to get used to it.

I'm too broke to pay for a bunch of subscriptions just to watch a couple shows so yeah I do own DVDs. A local thrift store sells them for chum change so I can't resist. I'm surprised about the amount of decent stuff I've found there.

I might finally give into buying a Bluray player because companies like Discotek are releasing absolute gold. Just preordered my copy of Urosukidoji from em!

I used to have a reasonably sized DVD collection, but I lost many of them in a storm accident. I've been mostly digital after that.

Definitely. I have a sizeable movie collection and many never made it to bluray and even faaaar fewer to streaming.
I also regularly pick up cheap dvds while traveling or in the streets when neighbors throw them away.

I have a few vhs cassettes too but I hesitate to start collecting those as well as they take up way too much space.

Mostly movie franchises that I grew up with (Star Wars, LOTR, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter) or some other franchises that I have a soft spot for. The only Blu-ray DVD combo that I own is E.T.

I have a fairly good collection, but I rarely watch them to be honest, I do still buy DVDs and VHS on swap meets from time to time if I see something interesting

I'll be the Criterion guy here if no one else already has. I also love Vinegar Syndrome, and really any b-movies on blu-ray. When I was little, I remember being so ensnared by my parents' DVD collection. This library of their souls; everything from Aqua Teen seasons 1 & 2 to The Honeymooners, a personal reflection of their tastes. I prefer Blu-ray, but will gladly settle for DVD if it's the only way to own something I love.
That said, I roll my eyes at the "REJECT STREAMING RETURN TO PHYSICAL" people, because Netflix is convenient and I'm not collecting DVDs as a moral stance. It's just fun! I have the Star Wars Holiday Special on the same shelf as Le Samourai!!
I love Criterion releases, I wish they had Spanish subtitles though

I love DVD (VHS as well). I used to to get everything on Blu-Ray and I even got several 4K ones.

These days I like getting super cheap DVDs and watching them on my Sony Trinitron. As I get older I prefer vibes over quality.

I want to get into LaserDisc one day, but maybe after I learn Japanese at a better level. There are super cool anime releases on LD.

Hell yeah I've been watching my Deep Space 9 box sets!

I keep a lot of DVDs of my favorite shows and movies if only for all the special feature stuff, love me a good commentary track.

I had an external cd/dvd drive back when it first felt like they were obsoleting early 2010s ish. I think I used it a small handful of times before it became entombed alongside its DVD brethren in a box in storage.

There is an insiginicant amount of nostalgia associated with DVD menus. But aside from that, in my life and many others I'm sure, disc formats have essentially ceased to exist.

I used to have a pretty big blu-ray and dvd collection that I was quite proud of, in the end I sold it for pennies and moved over to torrenting. They just take up too much space for me

At the beginning of the 2000s, I thought this format was the Christ savior of entertainment, but then Blu-ray and 4K woke me up from that illusion, when I first saw a comparison between a Ghibli film on DVD and Blu-ray, because it was eye-opening, furthermore, some companies carried out really poor restorations of their own products: Toei's conversions often had an unnecessary green or pink filter, which was not present in the original and the audio was completely degraded (almost like switching from stereo to mono).

Today, I still buy it as a compromise when the product has been abandoned solely in that format and there's nothing available afterward.

The only thing I have that plays DVDs currently is a PS2. And I don't use them.
Maybe if I had a CRT, I'd try to get some DVDs. Especially they would be better than early noughties stuff on BD which is usually cheesy upscales.

DVD needs to make a comeback to torrenting. Once the bad BD versions of early digital stuff came out, it's mostly replaced torrents from earlier, better sources.

I have a number of blu rays, but not very many DVDs. I do vastly prefer having those over the other alternatives, given that streaming is just a load of crap nowadays. You need to use Poob, but Poob only has the first three seasons and season seven. In order to watch the rest, you need to subscribe to five other streaming services. But watch out! It's only a subscription, so you need to force yourself to watch it in a good amount of time!

Yeah. Pass.

Yes wrestling on DVD hits different plan to start grabbing VHS as well and watch on a CRT a lot of collectors do this. No copyrighted music or cut footage.

While I have been building up my blu ray collection I have a pretty big wrestling dvd collection that I'm still adding to.

I watched my Fellowship and Two Towers extended DVDs today.
