Do you use DVDs nowadays?

Not for movies, but PS4 games, yeah. I have about a dozen, the latest being purchased around 2016, and they still work so I still use them.

Last films I watched on DVD were Throne of Blood and LotR Trilogy.
It's nice to have these films on physical media but I will say something that is woefully out of date, and that's the subtitles.

Like Throne of Blood has recurring lines that may have some alteration but the subtitles don't update accordingly, and in LotR if they speak Elvish don't give me *speaks Elvish* as the subtitle!
There are more upto date, and accurate, subtitles online but then they only work on digital film files only.

I used most of my DVDs for target practice. The only ones I kept were ones I got as gifts or movies I actually liked. I used to buy a lot of second hand DVDs from bargain bins and stuff so I had a lot of shitty movies on DVD that were only worthwhile as targets.

Yes and no.
While I don't often whip out the DVD player I have been on a crusade as of late to rip mine and my friend's and family's collection for a media server project I'm working on.
Cobbling together my own personal Netflix, so-to-speak.
So, I've had them out recently.

yes, and i've even started burning some movies onto dvd because i generally prefer picking out a physical disc to digging thru a harddrive for a file. feels nostalgic.

Not often, but sometimes in the rare event of the internet cutting out. Streaming is just too all-encompassing for my needs.

Yes. I've been watching Sailor Moon S on my 360/Trinity. most of what I have are dvds as I never bought in to Blu Ray. Most if not all of the visual comparisons of anime Blu Ray were a downgrade as far as broadcast anime were concerned. I try to keep to original broadcast quality wherever possible.

There is no more cd reader in my pc, but we have a dvd reader under the tv and we're still using it; not dvd hoarders, but we have a little collection of movies and cartoons.

I have started collecting DVDs and Blurays, mostly official-looking bootlegs since you can't get possibly official anime physical copies in my country. But I also buy official movies here and there.

I started buying because of the magical physical feeling of touching buttons, holding cases and displaying them. I also focus more when watching since I'm not distracting myself alt + tabing on my computer.
Seeing Twin Peaks and old Doctor Who on my CRT TV is awesome.

My father has a lot of DVDs that were kickass in his time and still is now, so if I feel like I'd want to rewatch a movie that are any of those, I'll just pop it into my PS5.

Not anymore, my movies and games I have all poured onto ssd. Ditto for my music cd's...shall we put in the convenience??

We absolutely do! Well that and Blu-Rays. If there's a movie we know we like, we just grab it. So much easier than tracking down what streaming service has what.

Every Christmas when i go back to where my family lives i watch DVD movies with my younger siblings but aside from that no. I don't think that i actually even own any DVDs.

The only disc-based media I use are physical games from my PS4. But I love the aesthetics of the DVDs popularization era. I hope I end up using one again.

I used to pay for various streaming subscriptions so my parents could watch shows they liked which aired on TV in the 90s/2000s. But they kept removing seasons or entire shows without warning. Eventually I bought them a DVD player and a bunch of box sets. (They're pretty cheap nowadays.)

I still use them for movies as I refuse to fall into the subscription trap and for music if I want decor, like band camp stuff and all that.

Like for example Marjorie’s 22nd Chances album dvd’s.

Yes, DVDs don't get the appreciation as any other format. Hell, I miss my laserdisc player.

I don't buy DVDs unless I already like the media, such as Dragon Ball or Avatar TLA. Even then, Dragon Ball does not have great home releases, so I tend to watch that using better quality releases available online.

Same goes for games as well, but I buy less physical media in general nowadays. I'm usually content playing everything using ODEs, flashcarts, or emulation without worrying that a disc might rot or fail. It helps to save up storage space for me, too.

i live across the street from a classic dvd store, and a horror record/dvd store so im more than set to line my shelves with physical media B^)

It's also very fun to find new things thru these stores, just picking something up cuz it looks interesting. a dvd store selects for a more niche selection of shit that wouldnt typically be so easily found online

i definitely keep plenty of media on my computer, but it's very nice to be able to pick something from a shelf. keeps the 'choice paralysis' at bay, and for records i enjoy the ritual of it. Physical music is also nice for when im working and tryna avoid computers/internet.
