It doesn't really matter if they stop now or keep going.....
As mentioned above, kids are more into digital toys now than physical ones, video games, iPads/phones, laptops, etc. Most kids outside the 3-5 age range wouldn't even give a doll the time of day anymore, they are glued to tablets or iPads.
The Barbie franchise making movies, probably to be honest makes more money from movie sales than the dolls at this point. The last time I saw a Barbie doll in store was at Walmart five years ago... might have been three, I hardly go to that horror show of a store. Anyway, I think those dolls still go for 20-25 bucks.
What parent in their right mind is going to spend that much for a lump of plastic? Okay, most would because screaming kids suck, but the point is most parents will zombify their kids in store with the aforementioned digital devices.
Hell, even as a kid myself, I didn't play with Barbie dolls
(We didn't have money to spare on junk like that aside i didn't like girl stuff anyhow). I was too busy being a brat on a bicycle when most kids were playing with dolls and G.I. Joes and the like.
