I remember having a lot of fun just browsing the airwaves with my Walkman and listening to "lonely hearts" shows deep into the night, but then I got an MP3 player and it all sort of fell by the wayside.

Having all my music ready and ad-free was such a ginormous step forward that I just couldn't imagine getting back into pure radio, but I kind of miss it sometimes, too, as a gem from an earlier, forgotten era in which the only way to listen to some songs was through those stations that played stuff from unaffordable new releases.

What about you?

no, but that's because of where i live. I get nothing but Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania stations, and it's either pro Trump propaganda all day and night, or just country music. I feel like i'm stuck in some redneck nightmare.

Even though internet access is widespread in my country, radio remains a popular and trusted medium, especially for local news and community updates. Since it's a small country, it's not unusual to see people still tuning in regularly. I often turn on the radio myself to stay informed and connected to what's happening around me.

Practically every day, yes :->

But! Where I live (way out on the West Coast) there are no dedicated local stations. OTA Broadcast stations are more or less glorified Internet Radio outlets that are fully automated, running and re-broadcasting pre-scheduled playlists and content.

I do enjoy the "local" ESPN station for some of their talk radio segments - all nationwide shows, of course. And when it's hockey season, the local team (Seattle Kraken) even has every one of their games broadcast over the air. I have so much nostalgia for listening to sports live on the radio (didn't have cable or decent TV reception growing up) and that scratches the itch nicely.

One side note, though. If I turn the radio on and it's broadcasting a football game, it immediately gets turned back off 💀

I would love to. I grew up on the New Jersey shore and we picked up the NYC radio stations, they were the best in the world. Now I live in upstate NY and one of the three radio stations I can actually get is the crappiest rock/top 40/popular music station, it blows. I really miss Seton Hall Pirate Radio ::hellmo

The only times I find myself listening to the radio is when I'm going somewhere with my mother in her car and her car radio is perennially set to the one local radio station that plays 80s golden hits. It's glorious.

When I was driving from Seattle to Southern California in August, I knew I was close to home when 91.5 KUSC came in clearly. It's just classic music, but if I'm in a car that I'm driving here, that's what it's on. Nice relaxing background music, very slight interruptions to ask for donations or give info on the pieces being performed, and that's all I need.

I used to listen to a postrock radio but it got shut down..

way back in the 90s, there was a morning show i would listen to all the time called "WDVE." The guys from it went on to voice the characters in Action League Now on Kablam!

I remember listening to OK95 a lot then Rocket FM, both located in western Washington (Washington closest to Idaho, not DC.) But that was yeeeears ago. Later moved to eastern Washington about 4 years ago (which is a lot more relaxed than western WA.) and haven't yet found a station, but classic rock or jazz is what I usually look for.

Classical seems to be more rare in certain locations. I would love to have a classical station. I'd be hooked for hours.

Yeah and the radio show had the same narrator and the Mayor played "The Piddler"

Give into the neck of red. Reeeeeeed. Just like like shiny cherry red butt cheeks. It's kinda' the same here though, but just the local media. The newspaper is left, the radio is right. The college is definitely left however, they're not in your face about it. I believe I live in a republican county but I haven't been keeping up.

LOL. Oh yeah, the toilet guy. Always diving.

Not voluntarily really. Every FM station here has a very bland and repeating songlist, the hosts are not particularly interesting and on most stations there's like 5 minutes of ads every 10 minutes or so.
There was an ad free talk radio with often interesting topics that I used to often tune into but that got turned into a streaming podcast thingy and now it just plays those on repeat. I do still listen to those podcasts on the app though.
Shortwave radio is also pretty dead here. I can find some german and russian stations but that's about it. UVB-76 is not that interesting for daily listening lol.

i wish so, but radio and the music in my region started to be suck since two decades ago.
only one radio I heard is radio about traffic, which still descent and has older 00s - 90s songs

Absolutely. In the morning I listen to the news roundup from a well-known Italian station, then I switch over to others — even some from abroad — that play different kinds of music. For me, radio is still an unmatched companion, and with DAB it’s even more convenient and high-quality...

Greetings, everyone ! Frankly, it's been a while since I last listened to that device. If I am in the village, I might turn it on just to kill some time.
