So I kind of shamelessly stole this topic idea from other forum, but I think here might be more people that plays some kind of gacha game

So, Gachas are usually paired with some really good stories, in my opinion, the glue that put everything in the same package. There are some great ones, some meh ones, and some that the characters carry everything.

Personally I try to read everything I can, but sometimes is kind of impossible if you wasnt there at launch or did you long homework (like I did with GFL1)

For Girls Frontline 1 (GFL1) I read all main related events + missions + some characters stories.
For Girls Frontline 2 I was at launch so I could read all events with some exceptions
For Blue Archive, I have become quite fond of its story and characters and Im getting up to speed with it. Like is its really cool and the stories are told in a more 'palatable' way. And Im not saying it is a more simple story, but when GFL spends like 4 'text blocks' describing a car, the ambient, the motion and finally the character, BA just play some car sounds, a door open sound, and it present its character.
For Uma Musume I read the Scenario story at least once and the same goes for the 'Character scenario'. I used to read the cards events but it kind of make every play through really long and sometimes I just forgot the plot point I was in the scenario/Uma scenario.

So what about you guys? Are you here for the good rolls or do you read everything so you can be a walking wikipedia?

i used to play Arknights, Limbus Company and Girls Frontline for the story, the Squad 404 section in GFL was my favourite as i love each and every single member.

I don't play them anymore unfortunately, i feel like Arknights gets needlessly convoluted and carries a 'i know the dictionary and i got a 10,000 word count to reach on my essay' vibes, and Limbus just became hype moments and aura farming which isn't my thing and not what i signed up for, specifically because i really loved the stories in Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina.

I only play BA and Limbus.

I read the story of both, for Limbus I care more about the world, since I like Ruina and Lobcorp more. ID stories are very hit or miss.

For BA, I read everything, including momotalks and event stories, looking forward to that new thingy the JP server has.

For me its been BA, Nikke and bits of ZZZ. My friend is really into Hoyoverse so he info dumps me everything most of the time.
Ive been getting into recently Trickal but its super sweet and cute compared to other stuff I want to read like Arknights and Girls Frontline. Although those 2 have darker and more grim stories.

LoL, so real

I once tried to get into it. It was around the Blemishine event iirc, I grabbed my tablet and think 'I will just advance in this scene to read a little before sleep'.

I track it, it took me 42 minutes to reach the end of the scene. FFS, if you are writting a book at least just let it pause it. Like if I locked the ipad, it would disconnect, so it is everything all over again.

So yeah, I just dropped. Anime is fine and all, and I liked the style (Not so much the gameplay), but damn, they clearly dont even try to test their crap. How 'mobile' is something that has you grabbed for 45 minutes and dont you dare to do something else or it is all over again.

Based Sensei.

Im in mostly the main Story (I just recently realized there was a more complicated Story order than just play the volumes in order.), and maybe some events in the middle (Im right now reading 'The clumsy nun and the magician of the old library)

Man, Trinity volume is just *chef kiss*

Arknights and Girls Frontline. Although those 2 have darker and more grim stories.

Mmmm... yeah, and from what I have tested they also have a more heavy writing with a lot of explanations and descriptions. In my totally biased opinion GFL1 is totally worth it.

It took me some years to caught up, but it was quite a ride. And we are now in the final event that will close the story.

God, the Kazimierez arc the Blemishine event is attached too is the worst offender. The final event of that series, Lone Wanderer was just a office girl giving you a literal wiki article of how land-owning works with ZERO flavor or relation to the world at all.

Babel genuinely made me shed tears, but then there's jokes like these that go on for too long without someone telling you 'yeah we wrote this cause it was funny'

The only gachas which story I actually follow is Nikke and Gardian Tales.

I'm not a fan of the "power point/visual novel format" that gachas usually use to tell their stories, so I get tired easily, but Nikke, generally has no excessive dialogues and the story is very good, while Guardian Tales doesn't use the VN format, it's more like a normal game, with short dialogues where you watch what's happening. Other gachas just drop endless dialogs with no avance, that are not interesting or fun and just get annoyed, like "let me kill something already!!!".

I play Honkai Impact, Punishing Gray Raven, Aether Gazer, snowbreak and I just use the skip button. Same for zzz which I used to play, but no anymore.

The issue with Chinese games in general, like Arknights, Stella Sora, Reverse 1999, the Hoyoverse games, etc. Is that Chinese itself is a very wordy language, I know for a fact Chinese isn't that difficult, thing is just that it likes to use 100 words to say 1 thing, or 1 word requires a lot of context for a foreign audience.

This is often reflected in the games, since most translators are always afraid of backlash, they tend to stick to translate as literal and/or as safe possible, which just ends with horribly long episodes.

When it comes to writing in gacha games, I'd say that the Koreans are the better ones.

I consume everything for Zenless Zone Zero, the story is hit or miss but I like the characters a lot. They've clearly altered the story at times based on feedback, which can be jarring.

I followed the story for Genshin at first but it was too much and kind of boring. Clearly they put a lot of effort into it with tons of voice acting, I just am not interested in minor plot lines about mundane civic duties in Liyue or what have you.

I followed the story for a bit in Honkai Star Rail, I just do dailies since I don't have time to keep up with it.

I've been farting around with Neverness to Everness but I'm mostly interested in exploring the world.

A gacha game is almost like a small part-time job if you want to do everything in it, and it's hard to work a bunch of those, metaphorically speaking. If I didn't work as much and was better at time management I might keep up with more than one game.

Of course. I'm not playing FGO, Nikke, and Trickcal for the gameplay. ZZZ doesn't have a great story, but it does have some really good characters that keep me interested.

I played Nikke at launch and yeah I liked the story a lot. Kind of quick and ready to its points, no need for 1 hour of explanation before the next stage. I was going to keep playing but the gameplay was meh to my taste, and since it is not compatible the Steamdeck I just abandoned.

I got Asuka tho, probably the only time in my life I manage to get the character I wanted so easily.

Im incredible surprised with BA, they tell a really long and sometimes complicated story, but it is so palatable that you just get into. And there are not VA, so it is even more amazing on how they planned all.

Yeah, I liked SR too, but the story kind of reminded me of Kindgom Hearts for some reason and I made the terrible mistake of grinding levels without knowing enemies just scale up. Ngl, that kind of killed the game for me.

I played FGO for other reasons

I don't play Gacha games, I have so many real games to play why would I even remotely consider gacha and mobile slop

I can see why, its gameplay is not for all people. Honestly I thought I'll drop it at the beginning, cause I don't play gachas which gameplay I don't enjoy (turn based, automatic games and tactical) and nikke seemed to be a boring game in that way, but it's actually fun to play, so I stayed.
