Old. Didn't care for the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy or anything that came after.
Instead let's talk about what is love and hope the babies won't hurt us no more lol. What is a soul in games? Which games in the series are old for you, and which are new? I don't know, maybe even FF4 is new for you, because it's not a turn-based anymore. So many questions about this post...
It's true that Square lost its touch especially after it became Square Enix but the real deterioration happened since around 2010 when they relied on action games a lot and got too Americanized. Now it's like Americans developing these new Japanese games in general, not a Japanese and they go further on nonsense censors by reaching new lows (Do you know you cannot type the name of the character "Morgana" in Persona 5 The Phantom X because they banned any word like "morg" that has a negative meaning? lol). As a person who is so away from America and Japan and no fan of any of these culture what I think is for wrong way to ensure profit Americans start to produce games like Japanese and Japanese try to do the same by trying to produce American games but thus they both lose their identity and as a result their games are reduced to their empty shells. Now the combat system of FF games doesn't make sense (either make it full turn-based or real-time lol) and then non-Japanese try to produce turn-based games that's more like real time with stop feature that would be more fitting if it was an action game. Perhaps the most recent BS is quick time events in supposed turn based game lol. Imagine you are bad at action games but you are forced with quick time events that's even harder for action gamers lol. And when you prefer to relax and think by playing turn based games the new fake turn based hybrids gets so nonsense the game goes on but you have to wait for action points to act lol. These days video game industry is so confused like a headless chicken lol.I prefer old not maybe becuse of nostalgia and they where good games. But honestly it´s like Square lost their touch. Well "they did kind of well with 16 I quit enjoyed 16 allot even with it being easy as hell.
But honestly it´s soooo damn strange FF13, 13-2, 15 are not final fantasy rely it´s like does games lost the magic and and uniqeness the older game haves also FF13 combat is stupid.
But thee strange part is FF14 manage to capture that feel and magic FF1-10 have and that what so damn strange their main line game just all final fantasy feel but not their mmo.
Im sorry but it´s so hard to explain what I mean.
For a decade I rely on indie developers while 99% AAA games are what I spam "ignore" on Steam anymore lol. I dig out good old games from before 90s just to discover decent "new" games to play while I lost hope in video game industry after PS2-era. Only rare exceptions here and there and most games are rubbish no way in hell I would even play them if they had paid money for it lol.Yeah man I can only agree with you on that and it´s sad allot of Japanese games has becomes so brainwashed with dei and American culture in general I honestly started to look forward more to chines games than Japanese games. Im not kidding China has started making for me at least rely good fun games. Black myth wokong. Genshin, Wuthering waves "man 2.2 patch the story had me crying and feel very invested.
Also south Korea has done allot of nice games as well.
As for summary:
To be fair 7 is complex now because of all those additional games as well, But most of the series has had pretty zany plots, even when they generally retained a more serious tone.
Trying to summarise any of them is going to be difficult. I feel the issue is more that the later stories grew in scope and lost their character. These stories aren't forgettable cus they're complex they're forgettable cus they're typically bland as shit.
Honestly FF7 has so funny nonsense story I cannot forget it. My brain believes FF7 is so meme-worthy BS I should remember lol. On the other hand I replayed FF6 a lot but the game is so complex I keep forgetting which is a good thing because every time I forget the game I can experience the game again without having to beat my head on the wall until I even forget my name lol.>skip cutscene
I'm only talking about the original game. There's a difference between not being able to summarize a story and attempting to summarize things and getting a lot ass-backwards. It's a little different now that superfans have been talking about the game for multiple decades and a lot of this info is, y'know, archived, but for a long time, and now, you saw much of the latter online with regards to 7 because of all the unreliable narrators and how some key info is revealed in a rather casual away. Maybe we could call it deceptively simple?
And I feel I'd have to disagree about summarizing most of them. Like, few except superfans are gonna be able to remember everything, I think that most people who played 9 (until they have to remember the last 5%) and 10, and V, and 4, and 6, and 1, and [dies of age] are going to be able to remember the general shape of the game. They probably don't remember anything as each of these games have a fair amount of fluff, but that's different from getting tricked by the game or something like 8 where dudes are just gonna be totally lost.
In any case, it's a moot point because the actual complaint people have seems to be in regards to stories just being poorly told, not how complex they are or aren't.
