Oh man, ABDL Silver Maiden, I thought I was the only one who felt that way. It won't stop me from playing a game, but it's very much not preferred over third person battles. Persona Q2 and a few other games do at least let you see characters during attacks, which helps a lot, but I would still always take entirely third person over that style. The Hylics games are the only exception, they are so fucking out there that the first person battles work just fine. x)Only have a strong opinion for TURN BASED rpgs. I know many of those games are great like earthbound, but in a turn based rpg, I like being able to see my characters during battle. That's what keeps me away from many of them ;_;
As for the topic itself, I prefer third person most of the time. Resident Evil 7&8 were fine enough in first person, but I'd take the third person style of the 2-4 remakes over that any day. There are some first person games that work perfectly in that perspective and I can't imagine them any other way though. Alien: Isolation comes to mind, Frictional Game's titles, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro series, Valve's releases, Superhot, the Halo series, the F.E.A.R. and Condemned games and others I'm forgetting. I feel like it works really well for horror games and it's the only way to go for VR games. I do always choose first person in the newer Fallout games and racing games though. A first person bumper camera is where I'm at my best. It's hard to explain, I can just feel the way the car is reacting better in first person. It is a shame that I can't see some really awesome cars, but feeling like I'm in control is far more important to me.
Ultimately, both can be excellent depending on the game. Third person will always be my preference though. I usually play with a controller and third person games are far more suited to that than first person games are.
