when i was younger, i was despising first person games, but as i grow older, there are many gems, overall, many say horror games for example are better on third person, but it's actually ''scarier'' in first person, cause space is limited and its more tense, but, there also games like skyrim, which would look better in third person, like if they were made with souls like mechanics or character action camera/style, generally, i think, both of these modes are lit, and it's case by case, depending on the game

what about you? whats your preference?

a cartoon of two men standing next to each other with the words both both is good

The scariest games I played were all third person. I guess seeing the avatar fall and stuff has a natural reaction. Silent Hill, RE, Clock Tower, but Siren really freaked me out. The Siren series is great and the fear of death is around every corner. The only First Person game I can think of is Kings Field, which at the time freaked me out. Never got killed by a tree or squids before, had no idea where to go. I'd say any game that is disorienting and can end within a minute is close to fear.

re7, outlast 1, visage, alien isolation, and fear 1 or condemned would like to have a word with you, lol

quality wise, though yeah, i agree, third person horror games, are better, but slightly, the difference, aint that great

I like First Persons for better imersion. And Third Person for relaxing and perspective of the protagonist.
It's a good debate because They actually make a real difference in the play, in ManKind Devide would be better in third person, in reason of the perspective increase and the fact the game already cut the first person to put Jensen in act of the conversation. but in counter part Dark Souls never would be good in first person.

I play First, third AND 2nd (thank you Resident Evil). Honestly I prefer 3rd from them all. Not a big fan of first.

I prefer third person view because I feel sick after some minutes playing in first person, maybe I'm just getting old to play.
For most people used to play on PCs in the past, first person games were not made to be played on consoles.

I do enjoy both ,but 3rd person looks better like it's cool when you see the main character doing idle stuff and all that

Depends on the genre. I usually prefer first person shooters to third person shooters but i'm not the biggest fan of first person rpg and dungeon crawling games.

I like to have ability to toggle between both like hitman or metal gear solid.

I play hitman exclusively first person its much cooler that way.

Still both work well if the game is built to be first or third but you know what? We need 2nd person :D

It's weird how there aren't many games with 2nd person POV.
The only one I can think of is Driver: San Francisco during that one mission.

Both can work depending on the game, but third person is the better of the two. The ability to see every action your character does feels more immersive, as apposed to just seeing their hands and everything directly in front of them. In real life, I'm not just looking forward and only looking elsewhere at key story moments; I'm constantly looking around me and even at me. That can be simulated better if I can do that movement with my own eyes and not a clunkier, less natural analog stick movement.

Likewise, a lot of aspects of the character are lost when you can't see them. Clothing/armor changes aren't as great if you can't see what you are wearing, vehicles don't look as cool when you can't see the exterior while you drive, and the nuances of movement are lost.

That said, if the game has you playing as a generic semi-auto carrying muscle-on-muscle marine type character, go ahead and put it in first person. I don't need to look at his mass manufactured ugly ass while I'm playing.

Only have a strong opinion for TURN BASED rpgs. I know many of those games are great like earthbound, but in a turn based rpg, I like being able to see my characters during battle. That's what keeps me away from many of them ;_;

I like the instant gratification of first person shooters, but they feel a tad too impersonal to me, so I'm usually sitting somewhere in the middle. If there was a "Two Person" game, I'd be right at home XD

There was, I think Driver: San Francisco?
