My whole life I’ve loved to swim—rivers and oceans in particular. That’s still a big thing for me but not really swimming in a sports sense.
In high school, I did track (mid-distance running and long jump) and cross-country during the year I took away from marching band. I HATE running. Despite my lean built being perfect for that sort of thing, I fucking sucked at it, never felt that “runner’s high” people talk about, and didn’t give a rat’s ass when everyone passed me in a 5k.
I was also in a military youth program sort of like JROTC, but not affiliated with school, and did/led a lot of group physical training between 13-18.
I signed up for roller derby as soon as I turned 18, but didn’t practice long before my car got totaled (I’m ok, someone hit me while I was stopped and the value of the car was too low for insurance to want to pay for anything

) & I couldn’t make it out to practice (I lived in rural south USA).
In my 20s, I danced professionally for about 6 years (I could and probably should have developed my craft more than I did—I was never as flexible as I wanted to be).
In 2020, I had to leave and took my first ever sedentary job. This past year or so I’ve gotten back to the gym and got a new pair of skates and started going to the roller rink. I’ve been getting a lot better and trying to learn jam skating.
When you’re a busy adult with a full-time desk job, it takes some real effort to stay active and fit—you have to make that time to train and move your body or it won’t happen at all. This year has been the year of getting my heart pumping again. I think DBZ inspired me.
