Whether it's a game that focuses on Christmas, has a Christmas themed level or possibly a game that just has snow in it, do you play any games like that for Christmas or during the month of December?
I never have actually, but one level that's really Christmasy is Banjo-Kazooie's Freezeezy Peak. I do also like Christmas in the Animal Crossing games, called Toy Day too.
It feels like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was perfect for this, not just the snowy themes and levels, but great in making every level of the game feel alive
A little off beat but something about having work off and being home for the holiday has me wanting to play some silent hill almost every year. Parasite eve fits the bill too
I've played through VA-11 Hall-A three (I think?) times, and each time has been in December. guess it helps that that's when the game itself is set. even aside from that, though, I've always felt it gives off strong holiday vibes without pigeonholing itself into being something akin to a Christmas special. that's a feat unto itself, I think.
I tend to revisit specific systems in the winter. The Sega Saturn and PSP/Vita in particular are my cozy systems I gravitate towards without even realizing it year after year. This December I'm visiting Dark Savior on the Saturn and revisiting both Final Fantasy Dissidia Duodecim and Akiba's Trip Undead & Undressed on Vita.
As a kid though I had a tradition to play Heavy Gear 2 on Christmas because it would give your mech a santa hat!
Used to play whatever the new Call of Duty was after Christmas, all the kids who just got the game running around would make me feel like an above-average player.
Not even remotely related to Christmas, but Final Fantasy 7. Maybe because I got it for Christmas back in the day, and playing it late at night and seeing the snow and the lights out the window, it gives me this nostalgic feeling.
I don't really have a lot of games I like that resonate with me when it comes to Christmas. But I do have this memory of getting LittleBigPlanet 2 like a year after it came out for Christmas and a whole bunch of people had Christmas levels up. I remember playing this one where I was swinging across a rope while it was pouring snow. And on the other TV there was an ad for the DSi playing, that's one of my favorite Christmas memories. I miss old Christmas commercials. All we have now is the damn Hershey Kiss bells, I can't think of any memorable Christmas commercials since the Sprite Cranberry thing.
Unfortunately I’m not playing any winter themed games currently but I have a question for everyone here, am I the only one who consider Persona 3/FES (originals) a Christmas game? Like most modern persona games they tackle every season of the year but 3 always gave me winter vibes, maybe someone can help me figure out why.
Of all the games I've played in the last 19 years set in that period, World 3 of New Super Mario Bros. WII immediately comes to mind. Good memories of that game and that console, the first home console that was given to me at Christmas 2011.
This year would be the first time I'll be playing a Christmas themed game during this time of year. Planning to replay Arkham Origins since it fits the bill perfectly
I don't really have any Christmas videogame traditions up to this point. But I may start one by playing The Grinch every year. I've started the GBC version and it's a fun little action puzzle game where you have to steel the presents without getting caught. I have not played the PSX one yet.
I have the tradition of playing Arkham origins since that game takes place in Christmas (I really love how the menu themes combines Jingle bells with a "serious" theme)
And another one that I think is the one I will play this year is Amagami in PS2 (especifically the Kaoru route)
