I remember getting excited when hearing about the then-upcoming Pokemon Horizons, but I couldn't get into it... Felt like knockoff Pokemon in the same vein that all those monster-collecting shows and franchises of the late nineties and early aughts did (which is SHOCKING for an official series, and especially for the one that was supposed to carry the torch). I gave it a rather generous shot to win me over and just stopped watching once it became obvious that it wasn't going to be my thing.

I also didn't like that stop-motion Netflix miniseries that got thrown in the mix (enormous artistic merits aside).

You can argue that I'm too old for Pokemon anyway (which is a fair point), but that has been the case for a really long time and I never once felt this much disconnect from a series I love and grew up with (well... I did stop watching during Hoenn, but that was more a case of responsibilities growing immensely and stealing me away).

What about you?

i haven't heard much about the new pokemon series. i stopped watching around the time of the hoenn saga. not sure why, but i did.
i think at this point, people in general would probably rather want to watch a show with the pokemon taking center stage instead of just seeing slower versions of the battles in the games. i definitely would prefer to watch a show with a set of starter pokemon going on an adventure instead of a 10 year old who's not allowed to win when he gets to the end of his adventure in every region for 20+ years.

No, I only like the Ash, Misty & Brock trio & old Team Rocket and of course nostalgia for the first season wins, "IN THE BACKYARD, WITH THE PIKACHU, YEA YEA YEAAA! THROW THAT FOOKIN' BALL!"

I forget where I watched up to initially on the OG Pokemon anime. I think maybe around the Diamond & Pearl seasons?

Pokemon has been Ash-less for me for a good 15+ years now, just because all of my Pokemon engagement has been with the games themselves. I haven't seen the new show or the new protag.

I couldn’t get myself to watch it for some reason even some friends of mine and my little sister and her kids liked it.

For me Ash and Pikachu are kinda the face of the franchise. It’s like the Transformers without Optimus Prime now that their gone.

I haven't really watched Horizons but I'm glad they finally decided to drop Ash.

They also handled his "ending" fairly well imho

I'm going to go buckshot here and say I like nothing that has to do with Pokémon anime save for maybe the more game accurate OVAs.
