Do you have to use different controllers depending on the game/system? (Emulation)

yeah i use my 8bitdo sn30 pro 2 for most things like nes, snes, ps1, ps2, and ps3. then i use the m30 for playing genesis, and the 8bitdo arcade stick for arcade games. i have adapters for my ps3 ps2 and wii (i use my wii to play 8 and 16 bit games because it does proper 240p output to my crt) looking back, it's wild that i beat so many snes games on my original xbox using that mushy, off center dpad.

I generally just use my 8bitdo controller with emulation.

I use the same Gamesir controller for everything related to emulation or games that just play better with a controller, for everything else I use the good old mouse and keyboard

Honestly it's pretty good. I recommend it.
Keeping this in mind.

My old pro 1 somehow started to have issues with the buttons.

I need to get the right screwdrivers.

Ps5 dualsense for Wii, Wii U, Switch and PlayStation 1-4 emulation due to motion controls

Gamesir S7 for any other xinput compatible game. Hori FC4 for fighters, though G7 is fine tii

Hori arcade stick for Mame.

Sinden light gun for shooters

Logitech g29 for racing games

A cheap Saitek controller for flight simulators

Genesis mini 3b and snes mini controller for MD and NES&Snes games

Generally I use an Xbox One (not Series X) controller for analog oriented games and DualShock 4 controller for more D-Pad centric games. Though I'll probably get something like an 8BitDo at some point as well as an arcade controller.

I got a few 8bitdo Wireless Ultimate C and C2 that I use for everything cuz they are the cheapest I could get. But I'm on the look out for a cheap dual shock 4 just for the Gyro support, there's a few Wii and WiiU games that the normal controllers just cannot do.

I just upgraded my MiSTer to a BlisSTer board. I have a "PS One" DualShock plugged in right now. For PS1 games it feels fantastic in LLAPI. However I was testing SNES and Super Mario World felt absolutely awful with it. I want to find a few of my PlayStation digital controllers and test it with those. I was hoping PS1 controllers would feel universally fantastic.

Yes. I do, muscle memory for my hands I like to think.
For Arcade game emulation, I use my joystick.
For Saturn, Genesis, I use a Saturn styled PC controller.
For PS1, PS2, SNES, Turbo Duo, Dreamcast I use another PC controller modeled like an xbox controller.

I find that most controllers in the market tend to have a very low life expectancy(that last dual shock 4 lasted less than a year), so for the most part I stick to a mechanic keyboard(Still kicking for more than ten years) and maybe some mouse for "touch controls".

This was something i cared a great deal about but ive become much more lax these days.

I have USB N64, SNES, NES, Gamecube, AND Sega Saturn controllers that i plug and play for their respective systems (the Saturn controller also doubles as a Genesis controller) in addition to my Xbox One and PS3 controller. These days ive been just using my ps3 controller for my PSP, PS1 and PS2 games, and my Xbox One controller for almost everything else
