Do you generally read the manga first and then watch the anime, or do you watch the anime and then read the manga as a continuation of sorts? I personally enjoy the former, even if the anime conveys only a percentage of the manga. But what about you? ( ´◡‿ゝ◡`)

While it's more likely for one to have contact with an anime first, if I'm interested I'll always opt for the manga first.

Anime adaptations, for a variety of reasons, have to cut and condense content, while also being liable to having stricter censorship standards and editorial pressure to contend with.

It depends really, some anime has improvements over the manga, while sometimes the manga came after the anime which sounds strange I know but it happens
But personally if the manga came before the anime, I'll always prefer manga, it's how the author intended the story to be seen and nowadays the anime usually just can't do the manga justice (like for example Vinland Saga)

I have a different take: game first. I played One Piece Odyssey because my wife is the One Piece fan and she wants to know the story.

Tho, after playing, I start reading the manga because anime is 1000+ episode ::lol

I enjoyed anime and go to manga for continuation but i prefer wait for season 2 if it exist lol

I don't enjoy reading old shounen manga because they've gotten popular and longer to read, also look at those during 2010s at manga chapters and volumes. It makes sense that reading a recent published shounen manga to get along the story then you have more time to re read author pervious work again, it just easier to wait for author and nothing to repulsive about how long does it have to read through.

Bleach, Naruto and Majority of One piece relation with manga, It's time consuming to read and it makes me want to end than get along the journey. Shows are better alternative to catch up on manga arc and a lot more entertaining than manga.

Although I only read some doujin and other works of one shot, is suffice to say I am more depend on the art than just a plot.

Shows are too better, it's intrigue us with the world building and other sources to be animated if author added up or animators. you could critique the animation why is bad or junky, however it came through some people who are firmly dedicates to making animations whether you like it or nor. As for example : lucky star has one of utter most popular series on Anime culture yet they're kinda cartoonish, but however is really entertaining to watch Moe anime than reading it. Is the expression of anime clavier, conversation are interesting and the character acting were phenomenal than just funny faces.
Unlike manga, it's retrospective of one or two that holds the storytelling and comedy might be sarcastic or express with the two or three panels to understand the joke or the meaning behind.
Just imagine what would become without animation, what would characters be yelling forKameha or Bankai or Rasenga. It's impactful just marvelously tease my heart!!

I can go either way depending on which series we're talking about, but I have a slight preference for manga first. I have a particular appreciation for the art of manga, the artist's unique style and how they express the characters. I feel like a manga author's art creates a real sense of identity that I like to get to know before watching an anime.

Manga. No fillers, author's original vision without the studio getting cute with it, and most often than not, the complete product, where the anime of that same series may just end after season 1, or 2, where the book isn't even completed yet.

The older you go the truer this. Fist of the North Star and dragon ball both became unwatchable for me after reading the manga. Naruto is getting there for me too.

manga, but if the anime daptation is very consistent, both

Manga. Animes, especially the old ones, really are the censored version, or more likely, a too much edulcorated story of the original. Great Teacher Onizuka, Monsters, and many others are the prime example of that

I rarely started by the manga unfortunately.

But I loved reading Pluto before the anime adaption came to be.

But I do agree that fillers can get annoying when you wanna focus on the canonical story. Case Closed and Knights of the Zodiac have a ton of them (which is why I am not fan of the story between the end of the Black Knight and the start of the Sanctuary where they have to fight against all 12 Gold Saints although Asgard is a solid filler season according to many).

I also think that FMA '03 did a good job despite how filler-ish the entire anime is in the later half.

Manga.
More often than not, the anime adaptation botches the original work, and it's a trend that happens waaaaaay more often nowdays.
Of course there are outliars, like Dragon Ball where the anime followed the manga consistently with some filler here and there, but the filler was nice and didn't disrupt the overall flow of the series, and a more recent example is the netflix anime adaptation of the Ultraman manga, the anime adapted the manga until a certain point, and from there they did their own thing before ending the anime on it's third season by 2023, it's pretty good I recomend it.
My rule of thumb is this: If an anime is an adaptation of a manga, read it. More often than not, the anime only exists to promote manga sales, that's why many get cancelled after a season or 2, you are supposed to buy the manga. If the anime is wholly original, then ofc you should watch it, they don't need to rush it to meet the manga quota.

I only watch the anime if it is an original animation (not an adaptation of something), if not I go for the manga

personally anime first, for me at least it's the cheapest option I have, but if a certain series only has the manga I wouldn't mind shelling out a couple of dollars for an afternoon of manga reading and chai
