Do you enjoy the "post game" stuff?

I have that exact same feeling - it's like a game dies after I beat it. I no longer believe in its world, so I don't care to do any overly elaborate post-game, with rare exceptions.
In RPGs, a lot of post-game requires absurd amount of grinding just to beat some superboss, or consists of an absurdly long dungeon. It feels like a waste of time. Then you have the games where the "post-game" should really just be part of the main game, a trend that started with Dragon Quest VIII AFAIK. Not really a fan of when they do that.
I love it and I'm glad I played FFX but its post-game is one of the most horrendous I've ever seen in a game.

depends on the game.
Ah the good old joker card of answers: "depends" lol.

Sure if the extra content is worth playing. I know Dragon Quest has several after game dungeons and even breaks the story on a couple of them.
For example 3 remake lets you resurrect your dad, and 4 remake lets you save psaro and let him join your team

Then there are games where you just....play the same thing over and over. I tend to just play something else.

I find I prefer alternate modes to a sandbox version of the game, with a few exceptions.

When I finished Ender Lilies, I couldn't find the motivation to finish a New Game+; it's just the same map with all your abilities already unlocked. The potential to easily sequence break didn't appeal to me.

What did get me obsessed for a while was the boss rush mode. I loved having the opportunity to use all the tools at my disposal to optimize my combat strategy and overall time. The combination of a clear goal and an unlimited toolkit carried my interest for many more hours.

I didn't finish the New Game+ mode for Parasite Eve either, even though I'm aware it's the only way to achieve the true ending. Again, there's too much repetition of the same content. What's unique to my experience with this game is the added motivation to do the dreaded thing: grinding.

I didn't know this until I was nearly done with my first playthrough but the garbage that you pick up after random encounters can be traded in for powerful weapons after collecting 300 pieces IIRC. The first weapon I traded for was a shotgun and that thing is godly. The best place to grind for trash is the first floor of the Chrysler Building because there are so many crows that spawn during a single encounter. The thing is, I was supposed to just use Aya's thief ability and not actually kill them because killing them drastically reduces their encounter rate.

Guess which big dummy didn't know that and killed them?

The exception to the rule and my favorite version of end-game content to this day is the New Game+ mode for Muramasa: Rebirth. For those not in the know, Rebirth has four DLC characters and their stories added to the base game. Like the main two characters, DLC characters are restricted to specific areas of the map, certain challenges, and story-related bosses. But once you've finished everyone's stories? The entire map is unlocked for every character. You can now bring any character into combat encounters they couldn't access before and experience old battles with new move sets. The ability to do this with all six characters adds so much more content and I love every second of it!

You reminded me how much I hate that the games force you to replay it just to get the true ending. Most of the time I settle for the bad ending if it means I got it by making my own real-life and video game choices. I don't wanna do what I don't want just to see real ending lol.

And then Persona 5 Royal unlocks new side content in new game plus that make me puke because it could exist without new game plus. Japanese video game developers should learn they BS a lot with the BS logic they have about new game plus and post-end contents.

Perhaps only game I know that worth to replay as new game plus because it's art form at this point is Nier 1. Without spoiling anyone all I'll say is, in your first playthrough you had no idea what's going on therefore you learned how things are so in new game plus you and your character gains awareness of what you guys didn't get before and it's rather a "shocking" realization. In that regard ending of Metal Gear Solid 3, moral dilemma of Final Fantasy 7, the message Spec Ops The Line trying to give, et cetera is nothing. I liked the way game showed what you were as a player all along lol.

In that regard for me only Nier 1 actually required to replay for the true ending so you can realize "hero" doesn't exist. If you are a hero then you are terrorist of the side you didn't choose and thus it can get to genocide. Does the ones you protect matters over the ones you chose to slay for? Finally a game made sense of morality make sense without making it generic lol.

That game is too goddamn long for me to even consider a New Game+ ::eggmanlaugh
The third semester also soured me on the idea, seeing as I had to spend an inordinate amount of time with the two characters I can't stand.

I like those completionist type games that don't require you 100% it to finish, but since you've been working since the beginning to get things, why stop now? Like Wario Land 3. That or completely new optional dungeons or a small extra campaign after the main one.

But when its like playing the whole game again for just a few extras I never bother.

at least for persona 3 reload you don't have to new game +

As a matter of fact I do and I will list my favorites.

Digital Devil Saga 1 has some "post-game" content but really you only unlock it right before you trigger the final boss. We're talking like the boss fights with Huang Long (Kohryu) & the 4 beasts, Beelzebub, and Metatron.

Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix adds a lot of super bosses post game like the Lingering Will, the Data XIII bosses, and I think the final cup in the underworld. Those challenges are there to justify grinding to the max level

As for Pokémon the only one that had great post games were HeartGold/SoulSilver and Black/White 2. HGSS gave you the Kanto region to explore while adding a lot more locations compared to gen 2 and BW2 gave you legendaries to find as well as explore the locals from BW1 that were cut off from the main game.

Yeah more like "new life plus" ayy lmao.

Only Persona game I bothered with NG+ was P4 Golden because I wanted that platinum achievement on my PS Vita. Not as difficult as I thought it would be, but my thumb was on that start button the whole time during cutscenes.

Now... Taking into account what I have said in the opening post: I ABSOLUTELY played through The Last Of Us multiple times for unlockables and just to experience the NG+ stuff. I still can't explain why, but I love it.

It depends on the type of postgame content.

Stuff I've enjoyed:
The ancient cave in Lufia 2
Post-game dungeon in the GBA version of FFV
Replaying Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song multiple times to play through all the quests and unlock the Netherworld questlines.
The post Hollow Knight stuff in Hollow Knight but not the Pantheons
Unlocking cheats or other bonus stuff in N64 era and sometimes older games

Stuff I sometimes enjoy:
Built in randomizers
NG+(but not usually)
Bonus levels

Stuff I do not enjoy:
The pantheons in Hollow Knight
Most boss rush modes
Extra endings in Afterimage
The ridiculously cryptic and socially oriented post game puzzle stuff in Animal Well
Bonus stuff just to unlock trophies or stuff for completionist sake
Most JRPG super dungeons and bosses
Post game content exists but game is saved before the final boss and not afterwards
Post game content being hidden behind vague shit ingame you can easily miss or fail at forcing you to replay the entire game

There's more but that's just the stuff I can think of off the top of my head.
