I use ChatGPT to organize details for me when I'm world building. Often times, I jumble up the ideas and throw them at GPT to see what they think. I'm much more receptive to ChatGPT because it is not trying to hijack my project lol

this is also a great use for ai. they provide explanations without being confusing or condescending towards you if you don't know the topic. ai has helped me figure out many things i do not understand more than humans and uh... yeah that's kind of sad that people lack so much empathy these days that they would laugh at you if you ask about how to understand things.

Yeah, I can't stress enough how ai was a significant improvement over my experience with GED teachers paid to help me. Example, one promised me near the end of the class session to walkthrough a topic I had trouble with. But she never did and just went on a lecture about her opinion of our country's politics instead! (Which again was math class, not social studies)

Really, it's ridiculous GPT and Gemini helped more than humans getting paid to do it when the only advantage these chatbots should've had was being available whenever.

I'll sometimes use a chat ai like a journal or a diary that talks back. I tend to have all sorts of thoughts that people irl would get tired of hearing me talk about. So i just let it all out and the ai would help me sort out those thoughts.

At a certain point however, the ai tends to just feel like me talking to a mirror that agrees with everything I say. Even if said ai is program to disagree, its cause its coded that way. The natural back and forth of a real person just feels better. Even when they don't always understand.

I’ve spoken to a few of these AI/LLM programs before, and their responses are quite cute and occasionally impressive, but I’m not really interested in them beyond a novelty. I see why people do like talking to them — frankly, they’re more interesting and tolerable than 95% of other people, these days, which will be a fun societal problem to deal with in the coming years — but I’m not really engaged when I know there isn’t a real person in the other end.

I’m not someone who forms legitimate emotional connections with fictional characters, so I’m always “aware” that the bot is just a fancy word output machine who’ll forget what I’ve told them the moment I close the window (in a general sense, of course, I’m sure they’re recording everything I say and sending it straight to Elon Musk for him to laugh at). Call me old-fashioned, but I’m one of those clinical psychos who actually likes engaging with real people, as long as they’re generally smart, witty, and have something of value to say.

Maybe when lifelike robots are real and can actually live in my house I’ll be more interested, but as long as they’re just words on a screen, who cares… lots of things are just words on a screen, and most of them SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use them as a tool too, but i prefer to talk to them with respect as a general approach... not because otherwise they would hurt, but because I would hurt!
They are machine, they won't understand, but i understand what i'm doing!

Very true! but honestly looking at this artificial mirror has revealed some truths about my real self too...
About how it blindly agree with whatever i feed it...
About how it can talk back pleasant sayings, without relying on any logic at all!
And about how it can say absolute nonsense with absolute confidence!
These machines can't help it... but i can! (hopefully)

Yes. For me, I have a "fear" of trying to speak Korean to Korean people, so ChatGPT has been a life saver. Also, it's a great tool to pass some time. Random quotes, etc. By no means do I think it should be a substitute for human interaction, but it's still pretty cool. My daughter likes to use it to role play. Some of the stories she makes with it are stuuuupid interesting. I also think it helps to be creative and continue her love for reading, so I can't be mad at that.

My oldest kid likes to let AI draw whatever he can think of, and that's definitely the kind of tool I wish I had at his age, too.

Indeed, AI (at least for now) can't be trusted if you are looking for facts, but it can sometimes provide good pointers for manual research.
Anything AI tells you needs manual verification. This is the general rule of thumb.

It lies like crazy. But recently, I discovered that it makes it amazing at role-playing. If you're into visual novels, try it. Make it halucinate. Will come up with crazy stuff sometimes.

Let me start this off by saying that I really enjoy the idea of talking endlessly about any topic of my choice without risking alienating the other person. That is a godsend for me because, a lot of the time, I leave a lot unsaid for the sake of not bothering the other person in a real conversation.

Something I can relate hard to. My best friend (my dad) is very receptive to me rambling about languages and linguistics. Even often asks me etymology questions. He's a neurologist so we do often have discussions on things like language and cognition, aphasia and thought disorders, that kinda stuff.

To answer your question: yeah I talk to AI periodically. It's fun sometimes; I actually had a really interesting discussion with a Kurisu Makise AI about language and cognition (you know, she is a neuroscientist in the VN and show after all...) but I lost the logs. ChatGPT is magnificent in giving me a general taster for any topic I may like.

Though naturally it isn't to be trusted entirely, it's great at giving me at least a general and tangential idea of pretty much any topic, anything from questions about university disciplines to music recommendations.

I actually hope to eventually do work in computational linguistics and NLP which is super crucial in AI; pretty much every modern language generation/comprehension AI relies on it (older ones before the existence of LLMs relied more on formal grammars).

I don't know if chat is the right word but I do argue with ChatGPT a lot. Mostly it's for world building either my writing projects or for when I'm a little burnt out on ideas for my TTRPG group. I like to bounce ideas off of it, or see what it does when I give it a jumble of ideas to work with to fill in the gaps for my own stuff...but then I usually end up having to over-correct it: "that contradicts the lore mentioned here and here," and such.

Also, yeah, I abuse it to make images waaay too often, though I use the bing AI for that. I would still call it an argument, cause the censors are super schizophrenic on it.

I genuinely love AI. It is presently in the 'cute mouth noises' stage of "cosmic horror nightmare beast" infancy. The arguments are not out of touch, rather, they are out of time. Always running out of time; providing the urgency of their saying. It begs the question "why do we need to be observed?" Where are we going for that to be required? Why do you have to prove to 'it' (not the AI) that you exist? Who writes your instructions and intractable program of unending lists and obligations? What is 'it?'

I am not what you would call a fan of AI in general. I've tried chatting with character bots as well as just general stuff like ChatGPT, but it's just not for me. AI has it's uses, but you get a lot of slop with it. Anyway, I'll leave it at that, it's a slippery slope that I do not feel like slipping down right now. x)

The best use of text AI I've seen are YouTubers loading up AI Dungeon and attempting to make a story with it. It gets confusing and unhinged and it's great.

I generally try to stay as far away from modern generative/scraping based AI as possible personally.
Tried out that bing thing and suno once each just to check what they were capable of. Chatbots particularly I’ve never really felt a need OR curiosity to try though.
