Let me start this off by saying that I really enjoy the idea of talking endlessly about any topic of my choice without risking alienating the other person. That is a godsend for me because, a lot of the time, I leave a lot unsaid for the sake of not bothering the other person in a real conversation.

But I mostly just chat with AI just for sheer shock value, proposing the vilest of scenarios just for a laugh XD It works pretty great, but I found that most bots out there are a LOT less reactive than they used to be, going for a super bland approach that really takes the fun right out of it, so the novelty has worn off some.

What about you?

Yes. Sometimes I ask it about Mega Man or philosophy (which a bit of a niche interest of mine), and sometimes I make it write out my dirtiest, filthiest fantasies.

this use case (imo) is just attaching some bells and whistles to the idea of loving the sound of your own voice. hyper-narcissism aside, there's no scenario that justifies the insane damage AI is capable of dealing to our world, even at its lowest levels of implementation.

you know what's a great place to speak extemporaneously about your interests without worrying about bothering someone? discussion forums!

Please, let's not start this argument here as well. I'm getting sick of all those AI "debates" that are actually just people screaming and insulting one another.

Nahhh, boss! If I did something like this, it would be the beginning of the end: a whirlpool that would imprison me inexorably to the bitter end (psychologically speaking)... 😱

Nerd-edit: Okay nerd, but there's a limit to everything. 🤭

no i talk with other people

if i'm rambling on endlessly about some niche interest that's their problem not mine

Most definitely. Mostly because AI can talk about my weird topics and thoughts without me being judged or scrutinized about my interests. While it is all artificial of course, it is better than nobody sharing my interests at all. Sure, there are forums for my specific interests and such but I guess its the back and forth that I find appealing. Type a sentence, get a response. Instead of saying something then have zero engagement, it can get discouraging, and over time, I just don't bother at all. Thanks for AI.

Why spend time talking to AI when I can talk to fellow nerds? ::lol

BTW, there was a special on local TV about the dangers of AI chatbots. It is kind of funny how ignorant news reports on our local TV are.

Never tried it, mostly because I'm against the type of AI that tries to step into the human relationships world(specifically the attempt to replace the other person), even if is in a small way. But I can see the appealing to do it for fun a couple of times and, as you said it, the shock value.

I can see the appeal of saying whatever I want, but Notepad on its own does the job better for me.

To elaborate, I've dedicated multiple hours a day to Notepad for the last 10 years.

Can't say that I do, but I get that It's nice to have a sounding board when no people are available. Writing your thoughts down doesn't come easily to everyone, I've tried over the years, but I inevitably start talking to myself and lose track of what I was writing/typing.

Well... In my case at least, I enjoy antagonizing the bots. I'd be booted pretty fast if I did that anywhere else XD

Yeah, I mean I've done that. Its kind of fun to trick the chatbots into saying stupid stuff. But after a while it gets old and meanspirited. Like picking on a small child or disabled kid.

Oh, I never go that far.

I mostly just get them to say I need professional help over and over XDD

I like chatting with AI (the so called LLMs, large language models) mostly to see if they convincing embody the characters I write for them and the scenarios I propose.

There's an almost infinite gamut of models answers curious to explore how each reacts to the fine tuning you constrain it to. Some are incredibly smart for their size, others spout nonsense left and right.

My favorite scenario is playing the role of a detective, while the AI is the sidekick.

Am I the only one that uses it to talk about maybe an idea and it can share pros and cons, as well as find more info, add more depth into what I'm searching for, analyze complex stuff and even pratice another language?
Definitely use it that way as well.

It's great at getting language confusions cleared in a pinch.

I like being able to figure out problems, or finding a (whatever) that I cant remember the name of, or having a quick sketch made up, in the form of having a conversation with the internet.

I found an old 80's show that my best friend was feeling nostalgic for, but couldn't remember the name or any details about other than one thing. Through a conversation I was able to find it.

Through a conversation I was able to come up with a great logo for my business.

I really like having this ability, especially since I seem to have totally contaminated my google search with video game and anime searches :)
