Do you believe in the supernatural?

Idk. I think the universe is a collective consciousness. Our perceptions and beliefs shape that consciousness. If enough people believe in something enough, does it take shape somewhere? We can never really know.

Honestly, I really liked all that supernatural stuff when I was younger and then I grew up and basically found out that there is probably nothing out there (sadly). However when I play Fatal Frame games that are deeply wrapped in Japanese lore, ghosts and beliefs about afterlife I keep wondering how different our lives would be if we actually knew for a fact that those things exist and what happens when we die.

I believe in animism (everything has energy, including inanimate objects) but i don't believe in god as a conscious being that watches us or in ghosts. The energy itself is god.

No. As for the Aliens/UFO, WE are those aliens, and we are flying the UFOs.

I believe in the super-unnatural, which is you, Ruky. /j

The number of things that ACTUALLY exist is vanishingly small compared to the things people CLAIM to exist, but I do believe there are at least SOME cases that genuinely cannot be explained, or at least, not based on our current understanding of the world. Things like ghosts, demons, angels, the human heart and soul... While I certainly understand the desire to do so, I'm not content to write such things off as being no more than delusions or the products of chemical reactions. The world deserves at least that much.

As far as most CRYPTIDS go... I personally err on the side of "eh, probably not, but who knows?" For one thing, the absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence. For another... Well, the idea that creatures like Bigfoot or the Mongolian Death Worm have existed in near-complete secrecy for hundreds or even thousands of years isn't as outlandish as it might seem at first.

Think about it: it wasn't until 2019, after more than a CENTURY of searching, that a living Fernandina tortoise was found, long after the species was believed to have gone extinct. Fernandina Island is less than a tenth of the size of Yellowstone National Park. Not only is it completely barren and open on much of its landmass, it's damn near as flat as it gets. And it took 113 years to discover otherwise.

So, again. It's not at all a leap to think something like a "Bigfoot" or "Mongolian Death Worm" could genuinely exist. I'm not convinced, mind you, but I'm not willing to dismiss the notion outright, either.

Lastly... Extraterrestrial life clearly exists. Just look at "people" like Mark Zuckerberg!

Jokes aside, for all the obvious hoaxes and crazy hobos you hear about, there ARE some genuinely perplexing cases, too. I'm not going to get too far into that topic here, but suffice it to say, I'm fairly convinced first contact has already occurred. Probably a long, long time ago, even. What that actually means, however, is far less clear to me.

Do I think it probably exists? Yes. Why? I’m not entirely sure.
Am I certain it exists? No.
Am I certain it doesn’t exist? No.
Can science prove or disprove it? No. Why? Because science examines the natural world, not supernatural phenomena.

On the topic of my beliefs, To me, 'God' is an unobservable, impersonal and universal essence or force underlying every conscious existence.

I don't believe in the paranormal, but I don't completely rule out the possibility of it either. I've experienced a couple of "spooky" things that I can't explain, and it's nice to be able to say "..or maybe it was a ghost"

The issue is that wanting to believe in something that science cannot prove nor disprove could be a cognitive bias.

We're all biased but this is potentially harmful for the mind to want to believe about things the scientific method couldn't examine.

I mean, the opposite can also be true. Dismissing an idea just because it hasn't been proven or "the science has been settled" is no less the antithesis of science than blind faith is.

If you want to believe in it, then believe. If not, then don't. Unfortunately, science can not prove everything. We have limited knowledge of some things in the world/universe, knowledge that will probably never surface in our time or ever. ::cirnoshrug

Wow thank you

This is what constitutes an hypothesis but once again it's only in a hypothetical state which requires actual analysis and experiments.

There's a difference between emitting a hypothesis and believing things without actual proofs.

Human belief isn’t just about logic.
It's fine to have beliefs as long as you're conscious they're what they are: beliefs.

Mate, have you ever seen some of the animals that actually do exist? With stuff like coconut crabs and abyssal sharks and zombie wasps prowling around in the real world RIGHT NOW, who even needs the Abominable Snowman?

Okay, have to chime in as the only outright spiritual person on this thread. Yes. And my beliefs are pretty friggin' hokey as they are so no, I don't feel like discussing them beyond my yes-and-no stuff below. I will chime in as well and say no, aliens aren't quite what I have in mind when I think supernatural or paranormal... unless they're also psychic or something IDEFK.

Could spiritual stuff like gods, ghosts, demons and an afterlife exist? Sure. Heck, I find the concept of not-existence after death more scary than any Hell.

Is there an afterlife? I hope so.

Can I prove it? Nope.

Are there gods worth worship? I sure hope so, even if I see them as manifestations of a single non-anthropomorphic deity / the Godhead / Netjer / The Force / Zombie Sky Daddy / whatever.

Are there gods unworthy of worship? Also yes. See: any who were believed to want human sacrifice. Literal human sacrifice. So Mesoamerican ones and Baal and shit. Those are just my opinion, anyway.

If gods exist, are they all a Super Santa Claus? Hells to the no. Make your own miracles, for why would they help those who wouldn't bother helping themselves?

Do I care until I'm dead, or damn near dead? Also nope. And if there is no afterlife... welp, I won't have to worry about that, now will I?

Are there things that've happened to me that go beyond a coincidence, as far as I saw them? Yes.

Were they huge, world-shaking events? No. I just like the concept of "small miracles", and my little experiences were the reason why I believe in them.

Were they anything that could be proven as fact and not coincidence? No.

Are skeptics important for this sort of thing? Yes.

Are ghost hunters, Bigfoot fanatics and other pop culture paranormal investigator types right? Probably not. I don't think the paranormal intentionally makes itself known, and probably for a reason.

99 times out of 100, will you get hainted by a weegee board or summat? Hell no.

Is there a non-zero chance that you shouldn't fuck around with real occult stuff anyway? Yeah.

Are Ouija Boards and Tarot cards and stuff like that "real occult stuff"? No, probably not. People have been fortune-telling with all sorts of crap for ages. Doesn't mean a ghost or a god or a demon are "on the other line", or that they'd actually answer through such mediums if you wanted them to.

Are most occultists full of shit, being swindlers and/or utterly delusional? Totally.

Does magic, psychic powers, whatever exist? Most likely not. Even for pagans and other believers, it's just prayer with more steps or hokey baloney.

Is Wicca stupid as all hell? At the risk of a warning: yes. It's paganism for normies and basic bitches, and yet somehow """cultural appropriation""" and bastardization of ancient religions and cultures is okay for the Wiccans, not the rest of us...

Am I biased, and these are all just one weirdo's opinion? 100%.

If you could call it "supernatural" I still do believe in radioactivity and antimatter (although we should get a better knowledge on how it works).

I'm pretty sure Higgs believed in his Boson before he could detect it. Coincidence? I think not.

At the end of the day. I'd say, if you think believing in the supernatural makes life less boring, go for it. You might even end up shaman CEO of some tech company.

Let's not forget that between the hypothesis and proof (and then again we're always updating science according to newfound discoveries that are approved by the community) we made many tests and technologies evolved to be able to prove or disprove things.

This is why the model of the Atom we all know today in pop culture is actually false but shown to make it easier to understand

Also correlation ≠ causation.

I accept that people have personal belief as long as they don't act as if they're the undeniable truth and force it upon other or even could be harmful to them or the others.
