For those who purchase physical copies, do you annotate them?

I highlight, underline, and write in the margins of my books. It's part of how I read and re-read them, usually I only mark them on my second run through.

What about you?

Man, I do that to mine... can't control myself. But I find it awful tbh, especially if you intend to circulate your stuff.

Aw, man. Can I get this thread taken down for gore? T-Those poor books...

Jokes aside, I'd just use different coloured bookmarks. Even something as rudimentary as a torn off piece of paper (from loose-leaf not the book itself!) with some writing on it. And out of desperation, maybe some sticky notes, just as long as I take them off gently when I'm done.

I have a notebook just for this porpose. I write my thots, the page and the book title in the end.

multiple bookmarks and sticky notes in a single book - I get irritated with dog-eared pages and don't want to mark them

No, not at all.

I'd take a picture or use a notepad.

Not since I was in school no.

If I found something interesting from reading then I'd probably just mark it down on a notepad/my phone notes.

Most of the physical books that I have purchased over the years have been rare(ish) >50 year old hardcovers, so... no. The very idea horrifies me..
That's nice to have half century old books.

But even a recent non hard cover book is important to keep in a good state.
