You know how people get into book clubs? A group of people select a book and all read it at the same time, meeting each week to discuss it together. I thought it'd be really cool to get a group together who can participate in something similar but with retro games. Is there one of these running currently?

If not, I'm down to organize it. However, if I'd be organizing it, I'd need to get info on how we'd like to run it as a community. Are we suggesting games and polling them? Runing raffles for which game gets selected? Any exclusions? Rules? How long does a selected game last for? A week, two weeks, a month? Let me know your thoughts.

I have been trying to get something like this going with a Game of the Month Club where we pick a game and spend the month playing thru it. I wanted to keep it to games that were more accessible to people like the NSO game collections on the Switch with some friends of mine but I'm learning that it has the same issues as regular book club. Most don't play, some may play a little, few finish. I've been pestering them about their thought on this month's game which has been LoZ: Minish Cap but its been silent.

We used to. I never found the time to participate and Sayo's been AWOL for a while now so if you want to revive the concept then there's no time like the present I suppose.

Ah, considering Sayo had this idea already, I'd really feel bad take over without their blessing. Does anyone have any method of contact with them?

Nah, they've been gone for a while. I think it is fair game if you want to restart it again.

I think the next option would be for us to ask the people who participated in the group how they would like to continue, and then possibly do a group vote of what to do moving forward.

I am not here to step on anyone's toes whatsoever. I just didn't know if this existed before me. :)

If it were to be games through NSO online or maybe Steam or something with a large amount of access, I think it could be fun to do.

So I participated in those (and really enjoyed them), but it really was all Sayo's show, and they haven't been online for months. To tell you the truth, I'd meant to revive/shamelessly rip off the idea for awhile now, I just never find the time!

Honestly, go for it; if anything, use Sayo's threads as something of a style guide if you're undecided on how to structure the thing.

I've seen other people do this, but honestly....it rarely happens do to scheduling conflicts and for internet with people scattered over the world and different time zones makes it even more difficult.....

That being said, Do it in real life. Local Comic place where i live have a monthly gathering where they play card games, video game tournaments and general have fun stuff.

I would like to try a book club. I was in one for this booktuber that suddenly closed it and I still don't know why. We did mainly short stories for their length and accessibility. As for gaming yeah work scheduling would be a main issue and also a question of how long to play to really be able to express opinions.

Was in one that was successful for quite a while some time ago. I'd be down to do it again.

Don't think scheduling has to be a huge thing to work around. Like, it's a forum, y'know. We can just play the game and talk about it in the thread as it's going on.

This is what I was thinking.

We'd probably start off with just posting in a thread about our progress and findings, etc. Only if things really took off would we migrate to somewhere with an interactive live chat like Discord or whatever, where the project lives or dies based on real-time participation. The joy about a forum is that it's like this perfect thing where people can come and go as they have the free time. If participating in playing a game along with others is important enough to you, you'd be able to just drop by and give an update or whatever.

So far the reception to this is a lot warmer than I originally thought. Does anyone know of any ways we could nominate what games to play, how long the game goes for, and what ground rules to abide by? I'm definitely cool with taking over but I pay my respects to Sayo as well.

Are you perhaps asking about a book subforum? If so, it’s right here.

If you want, you could make the thread anyways, but mention being inspired by @Sayo . Also, if you need or have general questions about the forums, you’re free to dm me any time, I’m open to help. Level 0s can’t initiate DMs unless they reach level 1 (requires message count of 25, then takes a couple minutes for the role update, im sure you’ll get there)

This is great idea but, first wait for summer, second how we choose a book? I wonder If some people don't have time or didn't reach others in end of week it would be spoil for them.
But I like book club.I think about time theory club, which has crazy books and improve imagination.

Sorry guys! I probably wasn't very clear for the English as a second language users.

It's not a book club, it's a video game club where those who join would all play a game over the course of a to-be-determined amount of time, and then we'd talk about them similar to how a book club talks about books they're reading with each other. :)

Ah no worries there. I actually used to manage one of those back in my PushSquare forum days! The idea is great, you’re definitely welcome to try and revive it.
