I'm moving the off-topic previously in this thread to this new one, and this is the best title I could come up with.

There's a few hot takes, but let's try to keep it civil. This thread is meant to share your tastes and not to invalidate others' opinions.

Don't turn this into a "woke" vs. anti-woke thread!!!! Or I swear to god RGT-tan will take away all of your game collection and replace it with copies of Bad Rats.
I LOVE YOU MY POOKIE ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

and the target audience for those AAA games were drunk jocks who watch football, wrestling, listen to heavy death metal, gamble and try to act like every stereotypical action body building men doing disgusting men clichéd stereotypes while they don't know what a video game is while saying Playstation is the best console in the universe. Which in reality, is not!
And I'd still say that the gaming community isn't a homogeneous mass, we got plenty of type of gamers around so they're also included in the mix.

There are a kind of gamers that love the latest WWE video game or like playing football ones.

But aren't there more hardcore gamers that also like metal and working out?

I would beg to differ about Doom turning into a platformer. Doom 2016 and Eternal are still mostly shooters and I'd argue that platforming isn't that different from what we've seen in Quake and Half-Life. Even the Classic Doom had "platforming" moments where you had to run to get to another platform without falling.

The Dark Ages being more on the ground was more detrimental to it imo.
Platformer genre is not about jumping and climbing per se but the whole game is about have to jump and/or climb otherwise you cannot progress in the game because this is the core point of the game. For this purpose they make the game "hard" in that aspect so you can't just jump to go on your merry way lol.

No one would think Doom (2016) even have a platforming aspect but in Doom Eternal there are part of the game that turns the game into FPS Prince of Persia or Tomb Raider which are action platformer games alright so they decided FPS platformer is what Doom should be so you climb around more than you kill, then what's the point of a Doom game? Not to mention lack of ammo prevent your ability to kill so most of the game is resource management platformer action.

OMG the hell is this rubbish lol. Imagine I dislike Super Mario so I play Doom but oh no, let's make Doom guy a plumber and save the princess at this point lol.

Just nope. Hell no. Heavens no. No-no lol.

Quake had great platforming. Not every platformers are Mario and Doom Eternal is still seen as a great sequel to the classics by many. Rise of the Triads, Mirror's Edge, Half Life (and its sequel), Turok and many other had platforming as their focus. If you want a more grounded FPS you should just play Wolfenstein 3D, Catacombs 3D or even 3D Tanks.

Platforming isn't that present in Eternal

Doom Eternal's platforming is not too far from Quake so it's basically id keeping their roots

Furthermore the ammo management is a you problem, you have a chainsaw that automatically recharges to get the needed ammo. It's ultimately your fault for not wanting to use it.

Addendum: Although, I agree that Ultrakill got the better platforming and air control of the two

Addendum: I forgot about the most obvious example: Jumping Flash, a PSX platform/FPS that predated Mario 64 and Quake managed to show how it could be viable even with the lack of straffing.

Sure, you don't need double jumping/air dashing in your FPS to be good but ignoring that older shooters allowed you to jump from platform A to platform B is ignoring the history of the genre.

Call of Duty and the alike are when FPS became more like you had concrete feet. I disliked that in Counter Strike jumping was punished by making you go slower.*

PS: I could find another example with Scout from TF2 that his entire gameplay revolved around jumping with his double jump and how you could reach higher places with the Rocket/Sticky Jumper with the Soldier and Demoman respectively (and an engineer's wrangler rocket jump for the more experienced people).

So there is an RGT-tan

Can I have her number?

And what made your statement not the same? Furthermore I've shown you examples...
Well I already mentioned all about it so IDK what else to say about it. I laid my cards, you laid your cards. This Texas Hold 'em game kinda ended, innit? Let's agree to disagree because clearly we have a "our subjectivity doesn't match" issue lol.

He's not one of us
I've seen the two videos and they played bad on purpose? Or on a gamepad?

Or maybe people complaining about platforming are just not good at playing the game? Doom 2016 insta killed you when you fell, Eternal just made you lose a bit of life.

You need risky platforming to get extra stuff like Argent Energy spheres in '16 so that's why you could die.

Eternal giving you the double jump and a dash by default is already generous considering you're attracted to the climbable walls like a magnet. If you cannot handle platforming despite all of that then I cannot help you.

PS: Ultrakill is still great with the wall jumping and sliding in a FPS.
PPS: So is Severed Steel with wall running and plunging.

Are you using a mobile device or tablet?

I wonder how you'd react if a game required rocket jumping to advance.

Honestly I had fun doing it in Team Fortress 2 so it would be a fun gameplay experience, but not the thing Doom Eternal is about by making you ordinary jump enough to fly far away and land on specific platforms or climbable parts and then you look for where to go and then go there. That's boring for me.

Perhaps the closest platformer gameplay to Doom Eternal I know is Devil May Cry's the forsaken reboot game but in this game it's actually fun lol. Initially the platformer aspects boring as much as Doom Eternal but then it gets fun. For example:

So why this game can make it fun is you don't have to lose your cool and lose your "speed", you can progress without ruining the rhythm of your momentum to progress. The game doesn't make platforming a simulator or make you strategically plan where to go and how to go. Even when Doom Eternal can offer a fast way to progress and you are in the mood still it's not satisfying for me. But the actual reason why I like DMC platforming is because it's actually a really challenge to make you be fast to overcome these platforming. It make you think more and you gotta be perfect for it to enjoy it. Perhaps that's why I liked the platforming in Prince of Persia The Sand of Time by perfectly and fastly overcomming obstucles in stylish way. However Doom Eternal is not a satisfying game in whatever it make me do. It doesn't enjoy me as a FPS action game, it doesn't make me enjoy killing, it doesn't make me enjoy platforming. If you like Super Mario with guns or something then the game is for you lol.

In the end platforming is least I can even like so for me to like platforming it gotta be stylish, fast and hard in realistic way that doesn't make it unnecessarily BS hard. When Super Mario was so popular on NES I played it a little and just got bored and never played a Super Mario ever again. Some people are okay with platforming, some really loves it but for me I never liked it.

For example we got bored of playing platforming games until Sega Genesis era. Just due to one pixel of wrong way to step on tiny platforms we died in games and it makes you say "ugh" after enduring this BS for a decade and then after 2 decade and so they give you Doom Eternal BS and then it make you remember the era of video games you want to forget. I'm sick of this BS lol. Just an example:

No one has to torture themselves with boredoom so if Doom Eternal doesn't give you satisfaction then it's okay, man. I don't have to play a game when I don't have fun. It's not a job and I have nothing to prove in what I can do or not so it's not a hot shit to endure the boredom to beat the game. Sometimes you gotta stop playing the game because it's a better decision to make in life and then throw that rubbish out of your window lol. I ain't gonna lose my brain cell dealing with BS boring games and no need for masochist BS to torture myself. I rather play fun but hard games because it's fun therefore as it gets hard it can give you satisfaction. Sometimes games are so easy it make you bored to death. You just gotta be aware of the difference lol. But when it's hard in unnecessary way then who would play it anyway because it's no fun, it's torture lol.

But then the thingy you don't get is your logic of making trivial jumping aspects in game considered as "platforming" when it's not. By your logic GTA San Andreas would be platforming just because sometimes you gotta jump and climb around. You don't have the understanding to see the difference between platforming and just jumping lol.

I agree.
2010 was the hard brake of the industry , 2015 the still stand and on that point utter turbo-rot of Triple AAA gaming .

While i still think indie-games can pull it through and give gaming the enthusiastic life back , it needs to ignore trend-following , bring variety of game-designs & -genres back and experiment hard to bring back the balls , creativity and enthusiasm that was lost on gaming Like there wont be a tomorrow . Most of it is still weak-sauce but its slowly get more Spice and great concepts again .

I hope the agenda-driven idiocy and political Madness dies out and gaming is again an hobby for itsself with ideas and concepts that is for active gaming instead of passivity and lack of challenge that made modern gaming so bland right now . For me even the big gaming corpos can die out , if creativity and enthusiasm comes back from it .
