I enjoy making fun of Nier Automata lol, especially after we have an artwork with Nier 1 but we are reduced to android romance in Nier Automata. I still can like Nier 1 despite a particular woman character is sexualized a lot by making her hang out with you in her underwear without any decent way to change her outfit to something acceptable so this is BS. It's cringe but I can see the art in other aspect of the game and can enjoy it. I accept these such things because games are unfortunately have to be developed in the way it can sell so sexual aspects in media in unavoidable sometimes and it's no big deal. After all games developed for lots of people, but these days they narrowed down the video game audience to specific type of people who like sex, action, Netflix... basically whatever young people want these days. They even ruined CRPG genre, now it's FPS with some RPG elements. As a result games being less being games.
But when you turn video game industry into porn-purposes then I'll draw my minigun because then video games cannot make you have fun because I cannot endure when most aspect of the game is sexual fantasy because it make the game pointless. It make me question why play these games when having sex is better. Why act like you eat hamburger by watching a juicy hamburger when you can eat hamburger in real life, not fooling yourself with digital BS? So, Nier 1 and Persona games are more than sexual aspects the games have. They are like people, so you like some part of them but dislike some part of them. Nothing is perfect in this existence. There are not only black and white colors. I see whole rainbow colors in Persona 4 lol and I like it by ignoring one color and for Persona 5 I like red, black and white harmony in Persona 5 and ignore its pink aspect and appreciate these games. I may dislike FF7 but it doesn't mean this is hate or 100% dislike. I'm no robot so I'm not binary. Most of things I like and dislike as how it's for other people are like that when they are not blinded by hate and love. And I'm a logical person. I judge pros and cons and try to be objective by ignoring my subjectivity but because I'm a human I cannot think like a robot but the way my brain work make me even try to turn my emotionality being tied to objective terms. Then my dislike for FF7 is more about "it's not my thing", but it doesn't mean I decide game is bad or something.
When it comes to Nier Automata, the game is empty for me because I have no care for romance stuff. I don't have the brain for judging and seeing pros of romantic stuff because this is so not my thing I don't know where to start and even comprehend if there is something good or bad aspect in it. When things are romantic the idea bounce from my brain so I cannot process it. So the game is mostly about romance, and when it's about robots it doesn't make sense to me further so my brain crashes in fatal error lol so I skip about whatever happens in the game. Cannot care about some robot love and their drama, sorry mate. The game is not effective for me. It's so empty for me. And then the cringe here is customer service of "under skirt" fantasy the whole game is about. Then what else is there? Does it make me question my past actions after I started new game plus in Nier 1? Does it teach you how subjective and delusional the idea "hero" and "evil" is like Nier 1? Does it teach something about human nature as how Persona games can do? Is Nier Automata larger than life as much as Nier 1 and even Persona 5? People like me naturally will dislike the game and cannot find anything enjoyable in the game. Combat was almost fun though but after Metal Gear Rising it's dull for me. Still if the game had released like 20 years ago, even in its nonsense story and cringe state gameplay alone would be valuable for video game history but we already have Metal Gear Rising at home so I cannot enjoy a lesser same genre game, sorry, Yoko Taro-san lol. I'm disappointed that after Nier 1 we got a game like Nier Automata that's like sci-fi Korean Drama lol.
In the end the whole topic can be reduced to "Why you dislike tomato when you said you love apple and strawberry? I don't understand how you can dislike tomato when it's a fruit as much as the ones you like!! What a hypocrisy!!!". I may like some fruits but doesn't mean I would like other fruits because not all taste the same, it make me react the same and it make me feel the same because there are huge differences of content.
