Forgive me if this isnt the place, but I am trying to talk in the community more and this is currently weighing on my mind. Feel free to make this a general discussion about dieting in general.

So. I am working to lose weight as the thread may suggest. My doctor says if I don't lose weight I'll get a few conditions. I've been trying to eat healthier, and I actually managed to lose about ten pounds, but it feels super slow to do. Ive been dieting since March.

Ive reduced getting fast food, making healthier food and meals. As an example I taken to make parfaits and smoothies. Trying to make more protien rich foods. Eating chicken and crab meat.

Whats everyone's favorite healthy recipes? It be nice to not feel alone on this. Haha.

I don't exactly eat healthily, but I have been deemed to be "overweight" (relative to my age and frame) in the past... And what I did was getting myself a Smartband, download a whole lot of songs and audiobooks, and start walking around those significant places I have known since childhood and could - literally - traverse blindfolded, all while trying to beat my ever-increasing total daily steps.

There's nothing quite as satisfying as feeling that familiar buzz on your wrist as that little trophy icon pops up after a massive daily grind.

And did it work? Absolutely! In fact, I'm my fittest yet! Furthermore, exercising to a soundtrack of my own crafting (and around familiar locations) has worked marvels on the mental side of things, too.

Good luck on your journey! ::peacemario

Thanks for the suggestion. I need to fet one of those.

Definitely concur with what Luna FM said about getting out and walking places. What helped me, ironically, was getting a simple music player (one of those Snowsky Echo ones) and basic earphones that I can't really stop and distract myself with every few minutes like a phone. All I do is go on YT, search up music compilations of stuff I like, download and load it onto the Echo and go. Half of the time I don't even notice an hour has passed until the compilation switches to another one.

Portion control and having the right kinds of meals helps too of course - my Ninja Speedi has been great for making four servings of healthy stuff at a time. Spinach and reduced fat pesto pasta with a roasted chicken breast is great when served with a helping of broccoli and green beans and is one of my go-to's when I feel like I've been a bit bad in a particular week. Turkey mince bologna from scratch, turkey mince taco bowls with peppers and onions, red lentil dahls, chicken breasts with roasted garlic and herb potatoes, those are some of my other common weekly portion batches. All served with vegetables taking about half the plate.

Walking is the easiest thing, plus you get to take in nice views outside and enjoy nature. Also, it’s free lol can’t complain about that.

Honestly, everyone has a different body so what works for someone else may not work for you. I love walking and had a time in my life where I ate like shit….junk junk and more junk lol but I was still skinny cuz I walked alllllll the time. Weekends, I’d go downtown both days and walk all over.

Granted, it’s harder in the winter cuz who wants to go outside and freeze to death lol

Anyway, walking is highly recommended and the Mediterranean diet is also a great avenue. Other than that, lots of stuff like tons of greens, fish, chicken (grilled is good), cut out sugary drinks and stick to water as much as you can.

I hear y'all. I need to walk more to be honest. It can be difficult when you live in a busy place like mine and people can be jerks to you for no good reason, though I could always go to a center. There is one by me that will be great. Ill look into it.

Fruits and vegetables are very good for weight loss.

Do you have any quiet walk paths near you? I have a nearby path that goes all over the city and it’s nice and quiet. Sure, there are people around but it’s nothing more than other people walking by once in a while or people gathered at parks I walk by.

Oh, welcome to the club.
My doctor says if I don't lose weight I'll get a few conditions.
Knee repairs are expensive :( Not to mention other complications.
but it feels super slow to do
Yes, it’s a slow process. Those extra pounds didn’t pile on in just a month and under normal circumstances, you won’t burn them off in a month either (plus, it can be harmful to lose weight too quickly).

Nevertheless. Here comes some brutal kindergarten-level math. Losing weight is about burning more calories than you consume. Gaining weight is the exact opposite. If you want a more scientific explanation, it’s practically Kirchhoff's Current Law. And when we break it, the predictable effects follow.

Every “extra” calorie we sneakily eat in the dark, hoping no one will see, is neatly stored in our body. And over the course of a one symbolic year, we end up with +10 kilograms. Not “by accident,” “out of the blue,” or even “because of genetics.” It’s our own stubborn, diligent daily choice.

Let’s move on. Losing weight in the kitchen is most effective way (it’s faster to skip that extra 800-calorie evening sandwich than to spend hours burning it off at the gym), but if the process seems too slow and boring, you can always add physical activity. On its own, it isn’t very effective for burning calories (unless you live at the gym or, for example, spend hours cutting grass with a scythe like our ancestors), but combined with what you eat, it yields decent results.

And that’s exactly why my grandpa was a handsome, strong dude (before he was taken prisoner by the Nazi army during WW2), and I... Wait, what were we talking about? Oh, right!

And the best part is that you don't even have to pay for a gym membership to achieve this.

The simplest option is just walking. But to burn calories “effectively,” you'd have to get a job as a messenger (and then they'd immediately put you on some kind of electric scooter lol, and hello, extra pounds again)

Buy a jump rope. Standard, speed type one (non-weighted). It’s a pretty safe activity since we’re jumping about 2–3 cm off the ground. But it’s super intense cardiovascular exercise, after which you’ll be soaked as if you’d fallen into a river. Of course, it doesn’t happen right away; it’ll take some time to get used to it, to be able to jump 200 times in a row… And do that 10–12 times in the morning. On my first morning, I only managed about 50 jumps, constantly getting tangled in the rope and cursing lol. But then it started to click.

Fun fact: once the jump rope wears out and tears after about 70000 jumps, you’ll finally stop getting tangled up in it!11

Another approach is lifting some weights. Again, you don’t need to buy a gym membership; it’s enough to buy… a kettlebell. Just one (i have a 16kg one). And move it back and forth, lift, carry and swing it - there are thousands of exercises on YouTube. A lot of energy goes into maintaining muscle, and when we see how much Son Goku eats after training and doesn’t gain weight, it’s because he has a lot of muscle... He’s practically made of muscle!

And it's all because he trains a lot. Plus, having some extra muscle is just handy in everyday life. Like climbing the stairs because the elevator isn’t working during city or state-wide blackouts, thanks to that crazy retarded neighbor who’s wrecking everything (yep, it's everyday reality for me), or burying a criminal in the garden who tried to rob your local Shotgun Granny (she makes best pies in da hood!) etc ;D

And i say it again. The results of an hour’s hard calorie burning can easily be undone in just five minutes by eating just one extra sandwich.

Important note!!! Before diving headfirst into the winter swimming pool of exercise, consult your family doctor (or whatever it’s called in your country). We all have various health issues and conditions that may not manifest themselves in everyday life but make themselves known during regular physical exercise (I’m not allowed to run, for example)

I’m not really into “specialized recipes” - they often don’t taste good to me anyway. What works best for me is “filling up” on simple fruits and vegetables (apples, carrots etc). All of these are quite large in volume but low in calories. And water, too. PLAIN WATER, not some e-enhanced© or i-innovative™ stuff.

And most importantly: This isn’t a sprint. It’s a marathon.

The time it takes to complete each individual section isn't very important. For example, I sometimes treat myself to homemade pizza. Yep it's kinda bad. But it tastes soooo gooood! What matters is the overall result.
It be nice to not feel alone on this.
You're not alone man

Oh, I almost forgot. If alcohol is part of your life - STAY AWAY FROM IT. It’s incredibly high in calories, even though it’s just “liquid” (it doesn’t satisfy hunger at all). Plus, your body treats it as a toxin and tries to eliminate/get rid of it first, rather than burning “normal” calories.
