Did your Taste in Games Change ?

I've played a fair amount of multiplayer FPS games around the 360 era, however I had become rather disinterested around the release of Destiny 1. I still enjoy the earlier Doom entries, and boot up early Call of Duty Zombies on rare occasions. I guess in a way, I can say that I still like FPS games to a degree, but I just am no longer interested in their online modes.

moreso i think my taste expanded. i still have a tendency to seek out twitchy action games but, i wouldnt have even bothered trying to interact with an rpg as a kid. these days im far more patient and am usually more willing to give all kinds of genres a shot, though i still dont care for crpgs or visual novels.

Yesn't. I'm less interested in games as a whole (it's the depresso) and have trouble focusing on reading for too long on account of my misery rock, but I still have the strong preference for JRPGs and VNs (since I'm counting high school as childhood, and I got into VNs at 16. Technically 14 if we count the terrible Newgrounds eroge, but I don't) remains the same. I'm less tolerant of trash and interested in more genres than I used to be, but my likes are the same.

My dislikes, however. I've really grown to dislike WRPGs even more (they were already up there with sports in genres I really don't like) on account of continually trying to like them because my friends talked about how great they are - surely it's just because I haven't found a good one yet, right? And my opinion of roguelikes has fallen from how many indie devs use it as a shortcut for just not having much content in the game. I'm also far less into western-made (and Square's, since they seem to wish they were a western studio) games as a whole, owing to their increased mediocrity and decision that my hard drive can only hold five of their games because they're not held accountable for their lack of optimization.

Same i became more open minded about the games I try nowadays many Genres Including Racing,Farming,Adventure and so on,but i am not good with horror games i tried some back than i think honestly i don't remember, and by horror I mean real horror so Dead Space and Doom is fine for me.
Yes, when you're more open-minded, you can discover that you like certain games from genres you don't usually play. In my case, I used to ignore racing games; the closest thing I used to play to a racing game was Twisted Metal, but recently I got into some racing games like Blur, Burnout, and Split Second, and I liked them. Another example is Persona 5. I'm allergic to turn-based games, but in this game's case, I liked the story, characters, soundtrack, and art style enough to finish it (plus I played it with cheats like "One hit kill" so I wouldn't go crazy with the combat).

As for survival horror, considering you mention Doom, it's clear they're not your type of game, but I consider Dead Space is pretty good.

For the most part, yeah but not as much. I was heavily into RPGs and Platformers back in my childhood but after playing more games with different genres throughout the years, I can say that I'm enjoy the variety of different genres but I'll always enjoy my time in RPGs and Platformers.

I’ve was an RPG fan when I was little and I’ve largely remained an RPG gal, but as of the past several years I’ve been falling in love with rhythm games and also street fighter as of last year.

Other than a few online games I played in the past one or two really but mainly, no. I can't really get into stuff online or things pvp related plus, the death threats turned me off from online gaming ... Plus I really just like retro stuff.

Things like Sega or SNES, but I do have a few guilty pleasures on the PS2. I have a PS4 but I don't use it much.

Well I like Doom and Dead Space, when i said i don't like Horror Games i meant real horror games that give you hearth attacks, and i don't consider Doom or Dead Space scary.

I used to not understand rpg's at all when I was young Now there are some of my favorite games especially Action rpg's like xenoblade chronicles, and Kingdom hearts, And I love a good turn based rpg to like persona, or Xenosaga.

My core tastes, no. I've been replaying Croc Remaster on Swtich, and despite a weird feeling at first, I'm now enjoying it. I even turned the HD models and new lightning system and stuff.

I thought I was outgrowing platformers, but no. It's just that not all of them can cater to my liking all that well (looking at you, Yooka Laylee!). But I still like what I like.

I did say "core tastes" at the beginning. Well, there are games that I was forgiving as a kid that I wouldn't be so forgiving as an adult. But I suppose that's normal when growing up.

Oh yeah. I used to be an immense Pokemon maniac. I was 9 when it hit big in the States so perfect timing. I ate, slept, and breathed Pokemon.

Now rather than "catching 'em all" I "can't stand 'em at all".

Other than that, not really. I think my tastes haven't really changed so much as they've refined.

It was pure hype, I had Pokemon toys and even a Pokemon book. (still have it actually)

LOL I can relate, I never managed to engage myself with any mainline Pokemon game after Red.

I'd say it expanded. I like more genres than I did when I was younger. A lot of us surely went through phases in our life where we wouldn't play "childish looking" games because we thought we were too cool/good for them. Now I'll play pretty much anything except visual novels, tower defense, roguelikes, and MOBAs.

Unfortunately I don't have the patience to play long JRPGs anymore, and my library is full of them!
its also the fact I find myself addicted to grinding and minmaxing

Not really but I had years of not engaging with JRPGs, found every single one I played between 2006-2017 boring. I started to like the genre again with the original Persona 5 and some Pokemon (6th and 7th gen titles) but not really get into the genre again. Since 2020 I really started to like them again, played even some pretty mid ones and liked.

Another case: I had no patience to hard games on this period too, back in PS3/360 era, and I have no shame to say that I played most of my games on easy and such. Everything changed with the Dark Souls experience, a game that quite literally made me to experience Buddhism. Since then I platinum'ed/100% every From Software title and some soulslike too, like Blasphemous, Lies of P and Nioh.

I wouldn't say my tastes changed as much as I refined them over the years. I used to think I wasn't into platformers, but after playing Mega Man, I realized I'm just very particular about player physics.

I think the biggest change as an adult was just buying what I wanted, when I wanted it.*

*All the games minimum wage could afford! (So many Gamestop trade-ins)

I am happy to "fast-forward" through older games though, I value my time a bit more than I did as a teenager.
