Did you have a gaming cap when you were a kid?

for me its was all way 2 hours but my mom mostly for got half the time so I just played for 4+ and at bed time I'd sneak my 3ds under my pillow (side rant I've seen tik-toks abour "DS under my pilow" and in the comments kids are like "what's a ds" it hurts my heart a little)

I did not! I couldn't play until my homework was done and bedtime was 9pm, but that was it. Though on occasion on the weekends my mom would be all "NO GAMES. GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS." We'd play video games a good amount of the time anyway, but we did do outside stuff as well.

I honestly wish my parents would have pushed that aspect more.

What often goes unsaid about my life (when I write about it) is that it was often a very lonely experience, particularly when my health took a hit.

I have learned, though, signing up my kids for sports and the like.

Not a specific cap, but whenever it was sunny out my mom would tell me to go outside and play with friends instead of playing games.
Same for whenever she noticed me spending a lot of time gaming in general.

Honestly I'm thankful for it - while I have some good memories of playing videogames with friends as a kid (such as an improvised Tekken tournament or plenty of LAN parties), most of my best memories are of playing in a huge, abandoned and completely overgrown property us kids ended up finding back then and kept secret from our parents.
... You know, until a couple older kids found it too, kicked us out and started growing weed there. ?

I had no cap and played plenty, but I also went outside to play with friends and go on bike rides alot, so I think my parents felt no need to try put a limit on how I divided my time.
My bed times were also relatively unrestricted, usually fell asleep watching the TV in my room which meant I could game if I was quiet.

Not really, no. If I played long I'd get some kind of "isn't it about time you stopped playing for a bit?", but nothing more ?

As a kid? No. But there was a cap later on when growing up ironically. Its also because on PC the games can be saved and many famicom games I had played mostly on a famiclone as a kid didn't have that ability so I had an excuse to take time. of course I didn't try to make it too excessive and once there was game over there was game over but I beat so many difficult games back in the day i was better than my adult self...

As I'm sure you can guess, I hated it at the time. x) But in retrospect, I wish she would have done it more. I was very lonely too and I sure as hell can't remember like any of the time I spent by myself. I do remember hanging out with my friends though.

That's good to hear though! It sucks that we had to go through those feelings of isolation and loneliness, but at least we can use our experiences to make things better for future generations.

My parents would only let me play games on weekends, they stopped doing that when i was thirteen or so.

sometimes i would come home from school and wait until they leave to work so i could sneak in my room and play a little on my PS2 lol

they were very pushy about that sometimes, i remember my dad hiding my PS2 for an entire month because he caught me and my older brother playing

My parents tried to limit me to an hour a day until I was in high school, but the moment I got a Gameboy SP (and later DS/PSP) I'd sneak em under the pillow or sneak downstairs after they went to bed to play on the PC/consoles.

Having insomnia would have be going days without being able to rest comfortably so I just filled as much of that time with video games and anime as possible growing up.

Of course. Any responsible parent should implement one.

Nope, my parents figured that if it isn't causing me to go blind or any other side effect, that it's a great way to set your kid down for several hours while they take care of themself instead of going around getting in trouble.

No cap I remember but I was less active on the computer (DOS games) as a kid in the 90s since it was before the internet, even when we signed up for AOL (America Online) it was with 56k dial-up. For home consoles no cap either but it wasn't my primary focus besides the weekly rental on Fridays from Blockbuster Video.

Not really. My parents were pretty cool about my gaming, until I'd start crying in frustration when I couldn't beat certain levels in games. They would take away my controllers.
