What's your opinion on Devil Kings a.k.a the westernized Sengoku Basara game?
i think the gameplay was decent, but as someone who grew up with the Japanese version of these game, the character and setting just turn me off..

Me too. Can’t stand this game especially as a fan of the Sengoku era. All the name changes are silly. Basara heroes 2 is way better.

played it on my childhood before knowing what sengoku basara was so i'm really fond of that game

Well, Capcom did what could to make the game marketeanle in the west. I'd still rather they kept things proper but it couldn't be helped.

That said, I believe some playable characters were cut, and that's terrible.

Capcom really butchered the Sengoku Basara license in the West. The first game's identity was completely erased, the second wasn't localized, the third was a sort of "bad timing" situation... and the fourth and best one stayed in Japan again. With how popular musou games are now, it could've been huge for Capcom eventually, especially with how fun the characters are. I think the series would thrive on the Switch.

Devils king is a good contender for top ten worst Capcom games for sure.

one of Capcom's earliest L's they had with this and it makes no sense why this was done when shit like Onimusha was perfectly fine previously, very stupid and dumb changes they did to it and for what reason?!

I'm a big Musouhead and Basara is actually one of my favorite series for it. I played Devil Kings a bit when I was younger but Samurai Warriors 2 had my heart completely at the time.
However, Basara 3 came out in America as Samurai Heroes on the Wii and I really liked it. Great gameplay, good translation, recognizable anime voice actors giving it socks.

The issue, of course, is that it was a quiet release on the baby's console. Warriors players were all on Playstation or Xbox. So it didn't do well, didn't get good word of mouth, the anime probably underperformed in America and the ArcSys Fighter SpinOff had no scene so I imagine Capcom saw the lack of excitement and opted to skip the USA when Basara 4 came out and that was all she wrote.

Too harsh. It's a good game.
It's a bad localization, and probably their #1 Worst at that.

I think the third one was not a "bad timing", it's their lack of advertising.
At the time, their biggest competitor (SW) hasn't released a game on PS3 , so if they advertise the game better i think the series will be more popular in the west
(just like how they beat SW in SEA and Japan).
