Happy 25th anniversary to Deus Ex! The amount of fun i had (and still have!) with this game is unquantifiable tbh. Love everything about this game. From the characters to the story, from the hilarious voice lines to the memes! Hope to be still around to raise a glass for its 50th anniversary!

OMG JC A BOMB!

"A moment more, and I will be like nothing you've ever seen; a new life-form, everywhere and nowhere, like air or radiation, redundant, self-replicating, always evolving..."

The atmosphere and music is unmatched, still remember how cool and mind-blowing hong kong and duclare chateau were for the first time, easily in the top 10 games ever made, alexander brandon and michiel van den bos made so much good music, happy birthday Deus Ex ::whatashame

It's honestly the perfect marriage of fantastic action RPG gameplay with deep philosophical storytelling, and I'm actually in the middle of playing it right now! (with GMDX: Augmented Edition, in case you're wondering)

I forgot I had the game in my Steam library. It's funny how experimental this game was yet is still nice to see.

I mostly know the memes (and conspiracy theories) around the game but it offered something good.

I also love how the OST reminds me of Unreal.

its the same composer's (which i'm sure you already knew)

I have only played the PS2 port and it was alright. This excellent review explains bad changes made in that port that effectively made it a standard shooter (because shooting was always safe). I might give the PC version a try and see if it encourages other tactics.

The PC port most certainly does. You can be a soldier who shoots first and asks questions later, you can be a combat hacker who hacks his way to victory and blasts away enemies with a handgun, you can be a sneaky dude who seeks alternate routes and evades enemies, or you can mix and match.

Deus Ex's action roleplaying is so good because you are not limited in the solutions you have to certain problems.

Yeah ps2 port is dogshit and completely different game

Deus Ex is such an amazing game. Problem is, I've never been able to sit through it completely.

It's not a bad game at all, I really like the tactical potential, and the story is amazing. Idk what it is but I can just never make it through. Farthest I got is to that one asian lady. I don't even remember the context or what her name is. I need to finish that one day. I bought the entire series with dlc for like 20 bucks on a steam sale one year.

Deus Ex on the PS2 was a weird one. I did finish it, but I felt it should have been made for the XBox instead. It may have received the same changes as the PS2 port but at least it would have been nicer looking and might have helped getting more people to play it.
Invisible War is a good game, not a good Deus Ex game, but still a game worth checking out. The Cairo section is one of the better parts of the game, worth it for that tbh.

Then Human Revolution. For these developers first try at this kind of game it was okay, although honestly we were devoid of a game like Deus Ex for such a long time that we all lapped it up anyway. The additional DLC, the Missing Link, is where we see the developers learning from the main game and delivering something pretty good. Sadly it's delisted now and integrated into the main game, kinda weird when it's quality is far beyond the rest of the game. I'll link h.bomberguy's review here because I like the main video thumbnail.

Then Mankind Divided! With it's great gameplay, this team has oodles of experience now and they can deliver a great world with many complex systems at play that you can gawk at.
The story and themes? Uhhh...i'll let Super Bunnyhop talk on this one.
Mankind Divided's DLC is worth checking out. AGAIN the devs knew where they went wrong and delivered some great densely packed addons that moves the presentation of the game in a positive direction. It's like that saying, third times the charm, right? Their next Deus Ex game would be THE ONE.

Then Square Enix shut the studio down and canceled the sequel. Sold the IP rights to them pricks at Embracer.
Shit man, these games are complicated to make, you need to nurture and care for this kind of talent and skill. The higher ups just don't care for that sadly.
