Was just released on the 30th. This is one I've been waiting on for a while now. The PC98 is the definitive versions of both this and the first game. The graphics are much higher res compared to the PC Engine. Also fingers crossed for us to get a PC98 section on the repo someday.

Dead of the Brain 1 PC98 translation:

I did try the patched ROM some time back. Very cool though did not get long with it, great to see both are now translated.

PC98 section would be slightly problematic. There is other people dumping and taking care of sharing the games for it, and there is several PC issues to make it's emulation nice. I had a fun while trying to tell someone trying to play a PC88 hentai game that they needed to use compatible version of MS-DOS to even setup the game and run it, since it was a PC, with NEC specific DOS and all. They did not understand the concept at all, decided to get mad that they were told what the answer was and that answer was not satisfactory, and kept saying the dump was bad because it did not just plug and play. Same would apply to other PC platforms that are farther from likes of Commodore 64 or MSX that are bit more simple to use for gaming, both in real life and emulation wise.

Spooky season 2025 already off to a great start.

Holy Crap. And how I wished for it. Neat. I'm looking forward to this.

That's nice, I was halfway through the first one before having a hard drive failure, another reason to give it another try. For those having trouble running PC-98 emulators I suggest using Retrobat, it's great for those complicated emulators that are a pain to configure, just download it's full bios pack and it's good to go, no bulshit configs or arcane knowledge needed, just select the game and start playing.

This patch doesn't work properly, and it asked for a hdi file extension that doesn't exist.

Perfect for October! Excellent work as well.

PC-98 has the best pixel art....

... How do we make an hdi (hard disk image) file? Anyone know?

Found it on Internet archive

The file that says "Dead of the brain 2 [HD]"

That's the hdi file

Part 1 works fine on retroarch but I cannot figure out how to patch the second game.

Hoping part 2 ends up on the repo as a .cue at some point but if anyone knows how to do that, drop me a line please :)

for anyone having trouble patching search "NEC 9801 - Translation archive" on archive. A pre-patched rom has just been added there.
Good looking out. I have not delved into pc 98 yet and have been wanting to. I watch these dudes on youtube called the basement brothers and they do this pc98 paradise show that makes me want to dive in. But the hardware itself is expensive and old so now is as good a time as any to try emulating it.

Got it working in retroarch on ios, wow. Amazing.

If you're trying to play this on mobile like me and are a fellow crazy person, to use the keyboard in retroarch on mobile, you have to three finger swipe down to enter a name. Also save states seem to crash the game but hey, it runs fine otherwise. Thanks for the help everyone. One love.
