I love dead MMO's. The communities are usually more intimate and less toxic than popular games. Plus it's nice being able to quest and not have to compete with tens of people.

Kal Online and ROSE Online are my favorite obscure "dead" MMO's. Kal is like the simplest form of Lineage II, and ROSE is truly the ultimate dress-up simulator with a fun grind along the way. Hellgate: London is also pretty neato and dead, with just one private server up and running (AFAIK anyway).

I highly recommend Arua ROSE if anyone likes cutesy anime style games with an obscene amount of adorable outifts to mix and match.

pso is the only true "dead" one i play but it is more active than a lot of currently "alive" ones. uncharted waters online for example feels like you are just playing with a bunch of ai bots that farm money and trade or players afking so their shops are open for you to purchase from. so i guess by definition its alive since the official servers are still up, but it feels like youre playing with animated corpses and most uncharted waters fans probably dont even know it exists

Sad that RF online dead years ago. It needs a comeback. What I liked about the game, that you can create your own mecha and your character with skills, items, accessories, weapons, guilds, etc on both. You either fight as your character or in your mecha.

I used to play Imagine Online (both Aeria official and then New Moon server) , and also Tales of Pirates ( kids game, but fun nonetheless).
Haven't played them recently but I always go back to them. If anyone likes them give a heads up ^^

On the other note, Neverwinter Online was my go - to game on my ps4 days, I have no idea if it's still on , but I know that it's been through lots of changes and most ppl gave up on it.

Does Maintenance Mode count? These games are dead, but are still legally playable. The Secret World is still running! Easily my favorite MMO ever. Granted you have to have an active account before it got essentially replaced by Secret World Legends which is still running, but you can load into TSW in those circumstances. I put the installer on my new laptop, but the last time I played The Secret World was probably 2021? I don't remember for sure.

It's such a great piece of fiction and lore. It's a shame that while there is a Table Top RPG that came out because while Funcom can be jerks, they don't typically hold IPs hostage to never be used again like other companies.

Samantha, SWL is still free to play and there. The lore rules, I don't think the gameplay is much better. It is designed though to try and microtransaction you into paying to advance. When I switched over I had all this currency and my costumes and not everything transfered over. They never re-introduced the aux weapons due to balance reasons, so now chainsaw or bazooka or whip or there was something else. Hah lemme see: well I'd have to go back onto steam to look, I somehow backed up some pictures there: Ah heck here's one for fun:

I didn't use this guy much at all. Early stuff here. He was my Dragon. SWL is still there. but yeah I think it is impossible to access TSW unless ppl are really creative. I am sure it is possible somehow, but hah SWL advanced the story. It is also kinda sad because I didn't ever use it but TSW had this really grindy museum feature. I just liked wandering and doing lore and yeah that museum isn't in SWL.

When I switched over to SWL, I at first was using the sword because how could that go wrong but I didn't like it, I wound up switching to pistol and always had elemental. Each weapon has a gimmick in SWL. I didn't like how the sword worked for some reason there. So I switched to pistol fast. Even with all my headstarts plus I leveled a crappy pistol for a while because I was too lazy to just auction or find a better one.

I had basically unlimited money as I had so much currency from the old game, but SWL wasn't as fun to play. There were some odd limits for keys and odd stuff. I think it is still worth a go, though I have no idea how hard now a no transfer start would be. TSW used to be waaaay harder and when I found it eventually. They toned a lot of difficulty because too many ppl quit in the first zone? WTF!!!!! I played through the first zone it wasn't that hard (on OG diff).

i know this does not count has a dead MMO but it count's towards me is all that matter. it's called pokemmo one of the oddest pokemon MMO's i have played. it has first 5 region's in it. it's breeding system is one of the worse i have seen and making money it is fucking hard has balls. i just can't play it has much anymore. there is no way i'm doing the 4th gen. hell i'm almost towards the 2nd gen and i'm getting kinda stuck there right now. also can't forget level caps for the gym's you don't over level there but if you bring a pokemon that is even 1 level before the cap and you use it in battle. the pokemon instant faints.... ugh....
