Day-One Purchases?

Ever wheeled yourself to the store to get a game the day it was originally released?

I can't say I have, but my older cousin got several SNES and N64 games the day they hit store shelves for the first time.

I have always envied and admired his fandom.

I rarely bought the latest game releases.But I've always been very interested in physical media.

Not exactly day-one purchases but I played Tears of the Kingdom and Metroid Dread (even finished it) before release.

(there are so many games that I pirated day-one but those dont count I feel)

Yeah I queued up in 2010 to get Black Ops at midnight on PS3. Still got the goody bag I was given which consisted of a poster and a few others bits and bobs somewhere.

Yeah, on release day of Diablo 3 I went to the only game store that sold licenced games in town just to find out its not available yet. Had to come back next day to get my copy. My friends were jelous because you could not pirate that game due to constant connection to servers, so I was the only one playing it out of our group.

Final fantasy X I remember it so well I was so damn hyped rushed to the game store after school.

Same thing with Final fantasy X-2 I got the game day one as as a bonus getting it day one I got 3 magnets that I still have today but they are a bit yellowed.



AHH again the picture on my phone and on my PC is right way up but when I upload it it becomes sideways.

Stupid computers.

Maybe like Original Dark Cloud and Dot Hack Series sadly those games are rare on shop only way to play is go to black market and buy a pirate.

Mass Effect 3 was the last one in person. I did get the occasional game on release day before that but never went to midnight releases.

Ive always bought my consoles when they were already late in their life, so most of the games were already there, but I got the day-one for these at the Gamestop:
"Bravely Default" (3ds) with an artbook
"Velocity 2X" (Vita) with an artbook
"Assassin's Creed Chronicles" (Vita)
"Monster Hunter Rise" (Switch)
"No Man's Sky" (Switch)

I know, I know, never pre order and all that. But some of my prized possessions are my Collector's Editions of Doom 2016 and Wolfenstein 2. Best pre orders I ever made.

I remember rushing to EB Games to get my pre-ordered copy of Kameo: Elements of Power. That one sticks out to me more than others because it launched a week before the Xbox 360. Even though I couldn't play it, it was cool to look through an Xbox 360 manual before the console was out.

Ok I haven't gone to a store day one unless it was for the console itself, but on steam the game I ended up getting as soon as it dropped was Touhou Artificial Dream in Arcadia. Couldn't get it until late at night but holy shit no regrets! Might as well be a new classic SMT game and I'm all for it XD

I've done it several times when I was a teenager, but I've forgotten a lot of it.

I do remember going to my game store in the thick of Winter, the town was rather snowed in but it was still open and I picked up Pokemon Sword.

I love the game, and that experience to get it.

Kameo came out a week before the console it launched on?

Honestly, with the progress the Xbox build that leaked was at, it makes sense. That game was pretty much done for OG Xbox before switching platforms.

As of right now the only day ones since Pikmin 4 is Ace Combat 08 and Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Remastered.

Not a game but a console. When the New 3DS got its limited release in North America I went to Gamestop at about 5 in the morning and there was already a line of campers. When I got in the two systems that were there got sold in front of me. I never went Black Friday shopping again.

I never camped, but I did get a handful of games day one.

Pokemon Diamond, Heartgold, Black, White 2, X, and Sun. There was a period of time between Gen 4-7 where Pokemon was my most anticipated release. X gave me slight buyer's remorse. Sun was the final nail in the coffin. Quit the series for good after that.

The only other titles I'm sure I bought day one were Metroid Prime 2, Smash 3DS and Smash Ultimate. If I wasn't the type to get consoles years after release, I probably would have bought a lot more.

I pre-ordered a few (Day1) back in the day off the top of my head Die Hard Arcade on Sega Saturn, Cannon Spike & Tech Romancer on Sega Dreamcast, and more recently The King of Fighters XIV on PlayStation 4.

Knew about them from either playing them on arcade first, or reading upon GameFan preview page on what's to come. Only downside was paying full price for games that would eventually mark down in due time.
