Hopefully I'm not the only ddr enthusiast here. Anyways, here are some questions to get things started:

-What is your most played song?

-What is your favorite mix?

-Where do you usually play?

Feel free to upload any gameplay videos you have as well!

To answer my own questions:

-My most played song would either be blue impulse or can't stop fallin' in love ~super euro version~. The latter is the first song I played doubles on.

-My favorite mix is extreme, but supernova is a close second.

-I usually play the 2002 pc game with a soft pad at home, but there are functional a20 and supernova machines in my area that I play as well. Supernova is in rough shape, but at least it's set to free play.

I played a bit of the PS1 games, but I'm a Pump it up guy. I even imported a dance pad from Poland that weights 78 TONS some time ago. I'm rusty but I love it.

I still remember 'can't stop falling in love' haha, once that thing gets in your head it never leaves.

I've dabbled in pump it up a bit. I need to play it more since there's a (practically) brand new cabinet not too far from me. It seems pretty popular based on how many people are there whenever I pass by.

You should try sometime, find the code to x2 the speed at least cos at x1 it will be so slow that even if the song is easy the steps are so scrammed together that it's harder to process for the brain.

Actually, If this is the pad:
7---9
--5--
1---3

while on song select screen do 79795 and it will change to x2, do it again, x3, x4 and then resets to x1.
I suggest at least x2 even if you are an absolute beginner. That's the best tip I can give to anyone trying the game.

I realize i turned this into a PIU thread and it's a DDR thread so I'll let someone that knows talk.

Thanks for the tip. I'll copy this down so next time I'm at the arcade I can give it a shot.

I think this works well as a dance game thread in general actually, so I changed the title to reflect that.

-What is your most played song?
Sexy Planet (From Nonstop Megamix)
-What is your favorite mix?
4th Mix Plus Solo
-Where do you usually play?
I haven't been to an actual arcade to play in YEARS. After high school I worked in an amusement park that had an arcade with DDRExtreme so I would play on that during my breaks and in the winter seasons when they moved all the kiddy rides in the arcade room. Last time i actually touched a DDR machine was at a Dave'N'Busters but it was a very poorly synced SuperNova2, and I fell out of DDR once DDRX was released on the PS2.

I still own a dance pad (not metal, but it looks like it with a bar at the back), but it's been sleeping in my basement for a long time. My goal, someday, is to buy a cheap PC, install stepmania on it with all the songs from 1st mix - extreme and use that as a dedicated DDR machine with my pad hooked up to it.

I can sing, but I cannot play DDR. Idk what the frog dick is wrong with my brain bits. My brother, looks like a little flash blur. He can play all rhythm games, and his favorite is Pop'n Music.

But 10/10 I still sing the FRUCK outta this song:

*That for sure didn't work. Caramel's - So in Love =P!

There's actually a slew of great DDR songs. Upside Down, Luv 2 Me, Dive, Put Your Faith in Me. But to be honest, my favorite songs come from Pop'n Music. Outside of Tamayura (which was in Pop'n Music but I believe originally from Beatmani.)

I would consider myself a heavy rhythm game player, like I've been playing them consistently for like 6 years. Which is why I don't know why I never got into ddr very much. I mean I play Piu alot and sometimes itg, got the pad and everything. Maybe it's the way the songs are mapped or the hit timing being weird, idk??

-What is your most played song?
Anyway my most played song is Love Love Sugar or 1998

-What is your favorite mix?
Probably EXTREME, love Noaki

-Where do you usually play?
At home with stepmania on pad

I forgot the exact version, but I have DDR for the PS2. I liked dancing to "Go West" by the Pet Shop Boys because it was so easy. The dance pad stopped working correctly, however, and I never got another one. Now that I'm in a different country it may be harder to find. It would be cool to get another one some day, bc right now I can only play with the controller haha.

That would be DDR Extreme 1.

For me, I'd rank it in the B-C category. For me Konamix (PS1) and DDR Extreme 2 (PS2) are S-Tier while DDR (PS1) and DDRMAX2 (PS2) are A-Tier. DDRMAX (PS2) shares the same rank as Extreme 1. Everything else is crap.

Good memories playing DDR arcade throughout the early 2000s, rhythm games have been one of my favorite genres since. I played Extreme the most on PS2 (with the mat peripheral) back in the day. 🕺

Ooh, what a lovely thread! I still play Stepmania on PC, but people looked me very strange when i told them that i really learned to play practising with the four GBC versions on the GP32-emulator (cant find them and Beatmania/Popnmusic on CDR btw)!!...

I lost some weight by playing DDR for months on Arcade, funnier and at the same price than going to gym!
I learned to play in both mats, and even managed to beat Max300 a couple of times... I think i can upload a recent video from a retro convention...
I always prefered instrumentals/semi-techno and songs that really were designed to be danced in the game: Probably my favourite one is "Sexy Planet". "Paranoia" and remixes, AM-3P, Tsugaru, Dead End, Afronova ... But some slow ones like Christmas Song and hip-hop styles required to be more technical when stepping... Also "La Señorita" is a very funny song even on the GBC version!
I liked all the Naoki songs: "Drivin'" was my favourite one, followed by "Rain of Sorrow"and Cant Stop falling, "La vie est belle", memories...

I have a copy of supernova and its pad for my ps2 at the house I like doing the ruroni kenshin op song 'freckles' on it. We used to have an arcade one at one of the nearby malls, but I guess the pandemic killed it.

I also enjoy sekiro, but since I never deflect I suck at keeping the rhythm.

** we had this game in the arcade tho that was like... steppin stage 3... i wanna say? it had 6 directions instead of 4. 3 arranged on each side of you. and we also had the metal ddr pads at home. (like the 300 dollar ones... not the really nice ones), but then a 300 pound kid played them and they didn't work any more.

haha the arcade shut down the next year... Crooks came and stole the humpterdink sword... ninja dog died.. etc.

look what I just found, tho!
