So let's talk Cyberpunk chooms! And not in just the video game sense, but a bit broader. I grew up with a biological father who repaired computers for a living and was deeply fascinated by technology (even though I don't understand most of it). One of my favorite shows during my toddler years was "Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad", this sort of Ultraman-like show with deep cyberpunk elements that was further improved by the inclusion of Tim Curry as the voice of the bad guy and a hard rock soundtrack
Later I'd see Hackers on constant rotation on my grandparent's Direct Tv subscription in my teens, mainly the movie channels and I was entranced.
Then, in my 20's, I'd come across Neuromancer and I was toast, fully in love with the idea of technology and humanity intertwined. Though I didn't fully comprehend at the time, through my own naivety or otherwise, how real that world would become if it hadn't already

Of course, I'd also be a fool if I didn't talk about the shot to the jugular that is Cyberpunk music. Everyone has their own flavor, mine just happens to be electronic coded. The soundtrack to Hackers (as well as the first Mortal Kombat movie and Cool World) is a pretty good entry point. I personally really like Belgian New Beat, EDM, Industrial, and Darkwave

Oh, you mean the genre hehe I kinda don't like how generic Cyberpunk 2077's name is in that context hehe.

I like Robocop a lot. Terminator is fun. Johnny Mnemonic. I also like some animated stuff like Ghost in the Shell & Batman Beyond.

Well, maybe a bit more broader considering that we basically live in the world that Gibson wrote about, but much less glamorous

And yeah, I fucking love Robocop, it is such an amazingly hard take of what a corporate controlled police state could turn into and with a modern day Frankenstein's monster to boot. I like the first two Terminators as well (though the first more considering that it's basically a more technological version of the slasher movie), but not as much as the first Robocop which, like I said, got so much right

Tron: Legacy (and also it's cartoon spin-off, Uprising) also had a very large impact on me. Loved the soundtrack, took watching Uprising for me to fully appreciate Legacy

I've been getting into the Shadowrun books recently! I like it because I play a lot of D&D with people who don't like playing humans and having the metatypes is a lot of fun for them!
I also like how big the world is! If you wanna play a Black Lagoon style pirates on the open seas campaign you can do it in the same world your players are kidnapping wagemages in the heart of the United Canadian and American States while fighting off bugs that'd make a helldiver blush!
(Sixth Edition picture since that's what we've been playing)

I always thought society would just turn into something cyberpunkish, augmentations, androids, hologram rooms, just sad reality never went that far.
i mean, good we didn't end up like terminator or some other examples of technology gone bad,
but damn, i want a damn holodeck!! make it so Tech gods!

While cyberpunk genre is my favourite the content of the genre is not high tech, low life enough for me taste but it is mostly because my 2nd favourite genre is post-apocalyptic. In my mind it is not satisfying when a cyberpunk world is very similar to our world with just cyborg skin and high tech integration into our real life. I want a world that world is collapsed but people are so fucked they don't notice how fucked up dog eat dog the world turned into. No one having a life, even when governments are no more and companies took over yet even the corpo people cannot even live a decent life because society doesn't function properly in every aspect of life, and it calls for a sense of "being more than a human" because an ordinary person cannot survive in such a world for many reasons. Wild west gun fights, sicknesses, barely can find water and food to eat, most people are homeless and even when you have a home it likely to be blown up in a day lol. So imagine a world people don't have jobs because society is not in order. In a way money is pointless because nothing to buy, in fact no need to buy. People just steal, salvage and make their own shit. Drive a car and congratulations, you are like a wounded animal in the sea filled with sharks lol.

Naturally it is a state of the world that relatively like 2 decades ago cyborg tech breakthrough world gradually collapsed with "post human junkies" and governments gave up trying to restore order so naturally what was left as "higher power" was companies. Naturally companies shifted to make business in cyborg technologies but their wish to profit bounced back into their ass and it accelerated collapse of the world further. Now they have money but economy doesn't exist so their money turned into toilet paper. Instead of money people ask favors or items and if you decline they kill you and get what they want anyway. In a sense I also dislike a type of post-apocalyptic genre that world tries to restore order too. I want a really dark cyberpunk "almost post-apocalyptic" really dark universe to experience yo. I don't associate cyberpunk genre with neon lights, ordinary cyborgs, a high tech world that the city is like a toy designed for children so it is so colorful just like in Cyberpunk 2077 and people still have a "decent ordinary life" lol.

As for the "cyberpunk music", how I like it is something like this which I tried to translate my cyberpunk music taste into this music by doing my best:

I couldn't post a music file here so I put it as video but due to file size limit its quality dropped a little.

I WANT cybernetic enhancements. Life altering injuries would fuck off.
"Oh look. I lost my legs due to diabetes... Well, fuck you now I can run faster and jump 2 stories from a standing position! I lost my arm in a car accident... Now I can flip over the fucking car!"

Same. My mom, who works for sunglass hut, was telling me about the Rayban Meta glasses. They're fixing to come out with a newer model that can auto-generate live translations when you're talking to someone and you can even see video calls in the lenses.

While not incredibly close to Gibson's world, it's a start

Cyberpunk became a broad term but I'm mostly fan of the "old school" interpretation of the genre, especially in the 80's and early 90's.

Give me more neons and flashing lights that make beeping sound

A.D. Police and Cyber City Oedo 808 may be my two favourite OVA miniseries in the genre.

PS: Blade Runner (the book) isn't Cyberpunk but I do like Snatcher and its spiritual successor Policenauts.

Thought I might add this, a wonderful documentary done about the notorious Australian hacker scene in the 1980's

Ah the 80s. While you writing your diary on your PC you notice your modem making dial-up and screeching sounds, your friends yells at your window "dude I couldn't call you so I came here" and you say "no way dude" and he says "yes way dude" and then you look at your screen and the bloody hacker finishes your diary that he shouldn't read and write on it!!! You say "shit I forgot to write ATS0=0" so you just write CTTY NUL and restart your PC lolol.

I like how people sees Cyberpunk with cities at night, plenty of neons and constant rain when it's more of an aesthetic (popularised by Blade Runner) yet realistically cyberpunk would lack any of those cool things and would look more like a dystopia that happens to have high level technologies but poor level of living.
