Hate to say it but that’s not super common. I hesitate to call the original Phantasy Star cyberpunk, and its sequels definitely are but no fem protagonist.
Closest I got is Metroid but the majority of games I’d argue are cyberpunk are post Dreamcast.


If you count SHMUPs maybe, then there’s

-The Guardian Legend (NES)
-DoDonpachi DaiOuJou (Arcade)
-DoDonpachi SaiDaiOuJou (Arcade)
-Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire (PC Engine)
-Flame Zapper Kotsujin (PC 98)
-MUSHA (Sega Genesis) (yes there is a woman piloting the mech, her name is Terri aka Ellinor)

Galaxy Fraulein Yuna I’d say fits once you start hopping planets. Worth mentioning that it’s a visual novel that occasionally becomes a turn based RPG.

If it wasn’t up to Dreamcast, this would’ve been a done deal for Mirror’s Edge, and Astral Chain. You can get the former on Steam and the latter will probably still be available to find in GameStop or smth. Xenoblade X DE also exists and even though Elma isn’t the main protagonist, that game has a character creation system so you can play as a girl. The other Xenoblade games do not have this option but they DO allow you to play as the women, they just aren’t MCs. There’s also PS2’s Xenosaga trilogy in that regard but post DC

You can pick out of multiple pre-made portraits, including women. Takes place in a pretty futuristic Tokyo constantly at the edge of destruction. 7th Dragon 2020 1 & 2 are exclusive to PSP, and have to be fan translated.

7th Dragon is for DS and 7th Dragon 2020 3 is for 3DS. Maybe not the latter, but the former.

I forgot about fucking Mega Man ZX and ZX Advent stupid stupid stupid dumb dumb dumb, those are THE cyberpunk DS games with a gender option

I'd say Oni, but that's PS2 unfortunately. It absolutely fits the bill in all other criteria though. I don't think there's going to be many games that fit, to be honest.

The problem that I see with this question is the lack of explanation about what "cyberpunk" is.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with Cyberpunk, you don't mean

Sadly, I can't think in anything that matchs both, what I think you mean, and the little fact that they need to have a fem protag. But I hope I can help to clarify some things in the case that I'm right. If not... Well, sorry for make a not-so-useful post.

Tho, if you accept games besides videogames, I can recommend you two TTRPG games.

The first one is, sadly, in spanish, but you can make your way easily with DeepL or Google Translator, (Now that I think about it, with the amount of roms and games in spanish, why there's not any group translating them to english?) is called Vieja Escuela, Cyberpunk. The other one is Carbon 2185, tho I didn't test it or play, but based on what I heard, is DnD e5 but cyberpunk.

They are yeah, just the first two 7th Dragon 2020 games though.

Also forgot to mention that Arcade games are tiny, but unlike every other type of ROM, will ONLY work zipped. Don’t use 7Zip or the Unarchiver on them, leave them as is. And in the case that your computer trashes the zip and gives you the uncompressed, either fish out the zip file or right click < compress. Recommended to use Retroarch MAME (all cores because different builds work with different games) since normal MAME is a nightmare to look at, imma be honest.

The English translation JUST dropped on the repo, and I'm in love with everything about this game. Stylistically and plot-wise, Hybrid Front goes insanely hard. Every party character has a unique personality, and well fleshed out backstories. That being said it is a turn-based, Advance Wars type experience and it has a prettttttttty high learning curve. Also battles can go pretty slow if you're not utilizing some kind of fast-forward function, but in my opinion it's worth it to get to the next chapter of the story.

Technically Devil Summoner Soul Hackers 1 is a PS1 game and Nemissa is technically the deuteragonist whom you play as. However, the PS1 port isn't translated. Only the 3DS port that was officially released was.

Soul Hackers 2 is the sequel but it was mid. Soul Hackers 1 is actually the second Devil Summoner game as confusing as that sounds. The original Devil Summoner was also ported to PSP but Japanese only and is currently untranslated. Someone out there made an English guide but that's it.

None of those games are cyberpunk. You people are deadbent on ignoring the "punk" part.

Cyberpunk is crime drama first and foremost, and the sci-fi second.
It is a grounded genre that takes place inside suburban area of mega city. It takes focus on the degradation of society/human psyche, on daily basis, from the abuse of and over-reliance on unrefined techological modifications (as well as other physical augments).

In some cyberpunk stories the scifi element takes very late to appear, and often serve as a culmination to the story rather it's foundation.
