Currently reading (or last read)?

Spent the last few days ogling (not reading) this collection of Cormac McCarthy's 90s books (his so-called "Border Trilogy")... still haven't opened the damn thing. Last thing I read to completion, about a month or two ago, was a short story, The Specialty of the House by Stanley Ellin.
Oh i have the border trilogy too, got it from work for like 15.99?

Slowly making my way through the Complete Chronicles of Conan. It’s extremely good, exciting, scary and fun.
Last story I read was Tower of the Elephant. It wasn’t as good as the one before but still stellar.

The book is gigantic, black monolith of a tome, so it feels like a real activity to pull it out for a reading session. I have a similar version of the Dune trilogy but I haven’t gotten to that yet.

i recently read Legends of Localization: Earthbound. it's a really great read about all of the work that went into the localization of Mother 2/Earthbound, and it kinda blew me away to find out JUST how much extra effort they went through to keep the original intent of the script. they apparently had to reprogram the entire text display system to get it to not display in Monospace, just because they felt it would keep the "natural speech" style the original dialog had.

currently reading the collection "Irish Fairy and Folk Tales" gathered/edited by Yeats, alongside a reread of Junji Ito's Uzumaki.

Eleanor Rigby (novel) - Wikipedia

this stupid novel, Eleanor Rigby (yes, the Beatles song) by Douglas Coupland

this book has been a journey as what I originally thought it was turned out to be something I didn't expect, so that is where I'm at with this

Finished Starship Troopers for like the 4th time, i really like this book.

I have also been going through an anthology collection of classic horror stories (its mostly gothic stuff).

Since audio books count, the last one was Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Good shit, highly recommended.

I'll try to finally finishing Brave New World but it's quite rough in many parts but I cannot blame the author, it was almost a century ago.

My goal is to read more Japanese author books, namely Ring, Parasite Eve, Digital Devil Story Megami Tensei 1&2 and perhaps Japan Sink.

Oh nice, I've read it last year after buying the Blu-Ray of the movie.

Well, my only gripe is the long explanations but I liked the story overall.

I'm currently going through two books at the moment, reading them whenever I go on break/lunch at work. One of them is The Recognitions by William Gaddis and the other is Satantango by Laszlo Krasznahorkai. Both very different books, but both equally as good. Being a fan of postmodern and having read all of The Public Burning, I thought "why not delve into Gaddis?" What a dense book! I'm by no means an idiot, but some passages and word play from this book got me re-reading entire pages. It's great. Satantango I'm reading because I just look Bela Tarr and I wanted to read the source material for the movie of the same name, equally as good.

Just finished The Stranger by Albert Camus. Didn't really find it all too impressive (having also been disappointed by his other work of fiction, The Fall) considering his reputation. I think it's just a bit of a lacklustre Dostoevsky impersonation, personally.

Just started reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez's 100 Years of Solitude. Looking forward to this one as my only other experience of South American fiction is Borges, who is amazing.

I just read both volumes of Josee, The tiger and the Fish. It's a carbon copy of the 2020 movie version, although the characters look more appealing to me in the manga than in the anime, still cute story overall.

A delightful little thing called "Springfield Confidential" by Mike Reiss.

I picked it up on a whim, but it's so damn good... fast-paced, devilishly funny and even touching, exactly the kind of thing you'd expect from someone associated with the show.

I have read like 100 pages in ten minutes. It's THAT good.

I've been reading the Sea of Fertility tetralogy, currently on the second book!

I found this same exact book from 1973 a year or two ago in a used book shop, and then i bought the rest of the series.. Mishima doesn't miss B)

The other book im currently reading is God Emperor of Dune, the fourth book in the Dune series

And man this series just keeps on getting more weird by every page, but i love it!

I'm also reading A Clash of Kings! Second book in the A song of Ice and Fire series.

I love me some fantasy! And after finishing The Lord of the Rings, i had that itch to read more, so i got these..

And last but not least, I'm reading Creatures of Light and Darkness

I'm really enjoying this one, being a fan of Egyptian mythology and a Sci-fi lover.

Just finished Spike Milligan's Puckoon, now moving on to Bertrand Russell's History of Western Philosophy

STATUS UPDATE: finished elenor rigby (NOT THE SONG), gotta be the weirdest book i read, onto fahrenheit 451

I've finished reading Brave New World (it took me like 3 years!).

onto fahrenheit 451
It's in my "to read" list next to 1984 and Logan's Run.

I don't know which I'd read next immediately but I want something lighter, maybe Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Guardians of Ga'Hoole.

if you were to ask me I'd recommend Animal Farm, it's fairly smaller and it's made by the same guy who made 1984, George Orwell

Brave New World is on my list of books I want to read, I planned on reading the first volume of Full Metal Alchemist before I dig into another full Word book

I've already read that one but I'd be tempted to do it again (in English this time). I was also thinking of taking a look at The Road To Wingan Pier. There's also Brave New World Revisited that I'll get soon.

Just keep in mind that BNW is quite "antiquated" in its style compared to 1984 and the plot itself isn't that complex but I really like it (and I think this society sounds more plausible than the other imo).

I need to read FMA, I've already loved the 2003 and Brotherhood animes.

Lots of different answers here. I was kind of expecting retro gamers to gravitate towards fantasy / sci-fi but I'm not so sure if that's really the case.

I've been reading The Tale of Genji, published in early 11th century Japan. It is generally considered the first novel ever written, and it's shockingly good. The characters are really likeable and change so much as the book goes on. The challenging part about the book is its many references to countless poems and folk tales, which mostly go over my head. Thank god for footnotes...
