The "why" part is what I'm interested in, when people talk about their game rotations. Tell me more about how you approach your daily/weekly gaming sessions!

I'll start off with mine to provide an example for the format

Currently I'm tackling the following:

Abiotic Factor every other day in co-op, with Portal 2 in co-op as well on thursdays with a busier friend. Those being obvious that I'm doing them being co-op is always fun, my single player adventures are:

  1. Blackthorne (32x) - I've got some rough insomnia at the moment, and I love picking a dark/brooding 2D game I can play on my chinesium handheld. As I wake at midnight after going to sleep at 10pm, I beat a level, and then I go out for a ciggie before having a snack. I always find these types of games to really benefit from the "under-the-covers" atmosphere. My previous one in this timeslot/role was Metroid Fusion, and I think the one post Blackthorne will be CV: Aria of Sorrow.
  2. Megaman Legends (PSX) - something casual to go through on my Air when I can't be asked to turn on my desktop. I find the story to not require a lot of focus, while still offering some arcade-y gameplay, despite the at-times dungeon crawlesque structure.
  3. Sonic Adventure DX (PC, Modded for DC Textures and Fixes) - one of the games I always wanted to see what the fuss is about. After completing the original Spyro trilogy in 2025, I decided to branch out a bit towards other classics, and I finally got to this one. Really enjoying it as a palate cleanser between the horror stuff I always play.
  4. Parasite Eve (PSX) - What I play to wind down around 7-8pm in bed on my macbook air. Despite the dark tone, I find it super comfy when combined with the music, and the admittedly relatively forgiving resource management. Never really feel like I'm running out of things, so having a good time while still getting my fix for a darker tone.
Looking forward to reading your responses, and I hope everyone here is having a good start to their weekend :)

Ok… sorry for my stupidity, but could you explain how it works? I didn’t really understand it.
It’s more because I’m dumb, not because of your post, ok? ::sadkirby

I'm currently playing through one at a time.
Megaton Musashi - I love mechs and the Gameplay
Edens Zero - Pretty Neat Alt for a Musou game
Tales of Graces F - My Second Tales Game
Tokyo Xanadu - Continuing where I left off for the 2 months I went home
Little Noah Scion of Paradise - Fun little Roguelite

And some Shmups and Beatemups whenever I feel like
Sonic Wings Special
Angel at Dusk
Scott Pilgrim

I’m playing:
Conker’s Bad Fur Day,
One Piece: Grand Adventure,
Pokémon Yellow

And sometimes I play Mario Kart Wii, and rarely Skullgirls.

It's like my 7th times saying this, but I'm currently on my Monster Hunter phase, and flying through MHRise as Gunlance/Bow main. While occasionally plays other whatever I'm interested in.

I need to get myself those mobile controller that basically make your phone into Nintendo Switch-like, so I can minmax my MH addiction (and god forbid playing Freedom Unite on phone), or finishing Chrono Trigger on the go.

I suppose, to be more direct, I'd like to know why you're playing Conker, One Piece, and Pokemon, and how you're tackling them (what time of day, mood, energy levels, intensity, reason for picking up NOW rather than earlier or later, etc)

This reply would apply to the other responses in the thread, don't think I need to reply to everyone

oh GREAT! THX dude, first time doing this :D

A lot of the gaming I do in a week comprises quick single player, custom Quake maps. It's an easy game to pick up and play, and mods and hundreds of custom maps give it enough variety for me.

Other than that, when I have more time to spare, I'll just game for an hour or more in any game I'm currently playing. When games allow for shorter game sessions, it's more likely I'll fit them into the ~20 min quickies like Quake maps.

Well… rephrasing my comment…

I’ve been playing Conker’s Bad Fur Day mostly on weeknights (Monday to Friday), usually without much time available, mostly to get revenge for my younger self who beat this game on a cellphone at like 10 FPS :,v because the phone was “bad”.

One Piece: Grand Adventure, I play more out of pure INDIGNATION. Dude, this game is basically a One Piece RPG… you can level up and unlock abilities from characters in the story. And yes, it’s the 4Kids anime game, which means SANJI WITH A BROOKLYN BLACK DUDE VOICE. But still, in 2024 I finished this game and completely fell in love with it :,v especially since I’m a fan.

Pokémon Yellow… well, I play it every day, all the time. It’s my love XD I’m not even joking, I never get tired of it.

Now Mario Kart and Skullgirls… I don’t even know why I play those, because I ONLY FEEL RAAAAAGE >:V

Zelda Breath of the Wild, Switch 1, continuous since 2019 or so. I play it almost daily.
It's my relaxation game. I usually play it at night to unwind. This and MGSV have kept me from playing many newer and older games, as well as quite a few Switch 1 games.
Monster Hunter 1 PS2 Tried it for the first time a few days ago, got me back into MH.
Monster Hunter 3d Portable HD, PPSSPP. I have played many of the newer entries but MH3dPHD is
my favorite MonHun game ever. Yukumo Village now feels like coming home. Started playing in 2018 with an USB SFC style SNES controller. lost my old save and started playing again recently. I understand the game much better after playing MH1 on PS2. Playing MH4U on the Switch made me really miss and appreciate the lovely atmosphere of Yukumo Village. The maps are very similar as well.
Silent Hill, Duckstarion. Trying to get the Katana, nearly halfway through. I always go back to Silent Hill.
I love the atmosphere and the BGM. Playing on my PSP Go as well, It's controls are pretty challenging.
Silent Hill Orgins on PSP Go. I only play Silent Hill at night or very early morning.
Brain Age, DS Lite. For the mornings with tea, just for the Sudoku and the maths challenge.

The forever underrated, iconic, and legendary PlayStation Vita has me in a chokehold at moment so I’ve been playing:

Unit 13: Insane junk food gaming that’s easy to pick up when I just want to kill some time and play on my Vita or run on some missions on my break . A pretty generic third person shooter but makes up with its addictive gameplay.

Utawarerumono Prelude to the Fallen:
Was never THAT into Visual novels or tactical RPGs but mostly because I never found the one the clicked. But HOLY SHIT everything about this game is what I’ve probably have been looking for because the story, the gameplay, and the characters have been so engaging so far.

God Eater Resurrection:
The Vita put me on to many Monster Hunter clones and one of my favorites have been God Eater. I’ve never played much of MH but with GE, I like how you use your God Arcs and have various different types and styles of moves you can do.

Man I should play the Sonic Adventure games again, I totally forgot they're moddable. Nice list :>

I've been playing a lot of Minecraft and Pop'n Music lately.

My coworker is really into a Minecraft YouTube series, so we like to chit chat about Minecraft, and I just so happened to get back into the game around the same time a new season of her series started. It's also just a chill relaxing game, and I love nothing more than to get home and chill out lmao. My friends and I started a private server for Christmas, but I seem to be the only one that still plays on it lol.

I've been off-and-on playing Pop'n Music for like 6 years, but it was only within the last year or two I hunkered down to really get good at it. I've been playing through the PlayStation games to try to unlock everything. So far, I've beat the story mode for Pop'n Music Portable 1 & 2, Pop'n Music 8, Pop'n Music Best Hits, and Pop'n Music Fever. I'm about halfway through Pop'n Music Carnival.

And every once-in-a-while I'll play a little Stepmania, Nuclear Throne, Nubby's Number Factory, and Picross. They all have a ton of content and they're really easy to come back to, so they stay in my rotation.

I've mainly been rotating between Cronos: The New Dawn and Shinobi:AoV. I am catching up new games, and there are still more on the list. I got it Absolum now, because it's on sale for $20 now. I'll get to that after finishing Cronos at least.

I've been playing various Street Fighter games on my RG35XXH for the hell of it. Especially Alpha 3 Max for its bonus modes.

Tomb Raider 2: I've been playing through all the old Tomb Raider games and I think they're pretty neat! I've also been lurking in the TRLE community and hope to start making my own Tomb Raider levels once I finish the games so I have a better grasp on what good Tomb Raider level design looks like!
Marvel Rivals: all of my friends are really into this game right now and it's like, if you want to hang out you have to be playing this game, but I could take it or leave it honestly. I also realized while playing it that I don't know any Marvel characters because I skipped the movies lol. I guess I play storm? I like her hair.
UNBEATABLE
: Been waiting for this game to come out for so long! It's a really cool rhythm game where music is illegal and you do crime... by playing the guitar real good. Super cool game!
The Witcher: Recently read all the books and have never played any of the games so I'm now working my way through the series. First one is ok, but I really miss Ciri, she was so cool I wish the story was about her instead!

Until some time ago I used to always beat a game and do a Smash Ultimate match to pace it out/"celebrate" having just finished one. I'm not doing it as much as before.

Right now the current plans are definitely Fire Emblem Path of Radiance that I will alternate with Lost Planet 1 until I'm done with both, while also finishing shorter games like Alisia Dragoon, the rest of the Rushing Beat trilogy.
And then I'm done with these 3 who knows since I have a huge backlog.
Not to mention: when I'll return to FFXIV I'll just play only that one and do at least 5 MSQs daily for each expansion 'till I'm done with Endwalker (post-game excluded, for the moment).

I'm now on Cyberpunk 2077, on my third playthrough, this time as an ex-corpo. I'm going to see if I can get this time the secret ending.

And I'm playing Binding of Isaac Afterbirth+ as the broken horned flying demon. Thought it would be a pain in the ass to beat the game as him, but it's been quite manageable.

And also Neon Abyss. Trying to clear the final two bosses of the game, Prometheus and Corrupt Zeus, and finding kind of a pain with all their health bars and gimmicks.

my way of "gaming rotation" is more of "console rotation" becasue I don't have a place to connect everything together like most people do with those inmese desktops where they use those adapters with multiple rca and etc, and 2- I consider that as a little "incentive" for playing some games and explore the catalog :) for example I really want to play crash bandicoot 2 on my ps1 but I have right now my sega dreamcast and my sega saturn connected to the tv, and I'm finishing dino crisis for the first time, so until I'm not done with that, I'm not using the ps1.
The saturn is for playing mostly house of the dead with my brother, I have 2 lightguns :D

oh and I'm also using my switch for the first time since one year aprox, playing between zelda botw, and the dragon quest 1 HD2D remake

Corpo into (Don't Fear) The Reaper always felt the most thematically complete to me. Corpo may not be the best start but damn if it doesn't complement that ending :loldog

That's true. It should complement nicely.

I totally get you man. I myself have an unhooked saturn, dreamcast, and 360. 360 is fine because it's HDMI, but my grandma's crt shit the bed, and now I have no way to get my saturn or dreamcast going. Very tempted to just put them behind me and stick to emulation. So tiring to manage retro setups sometimes. For lightguns I'm thinking of just going for sinden lightguns after I've beaten the wii lightgun library with my buddy that comes over on the reg.

definitely get Cronos done bro. Absolute highlight for me. I decided to go for Absolum as a ps5 physical because I have people over on the reg, but I might double dip on steam if some online buds feel like playing.
